Hi

I have a dreambox with a 1.1 dish (rotating).... In couple of weeks will be getting BSKYB as part of my viewing.
I have been told getting a better LNB will (ever so slightly) improve the quality of certain reception.
But being a novice don't know which LNB to buy.

I have been told the best to get is an INVACOM 0.3db.
Also been told to that a 0.2db LNB is the best.... INVACOM sent be an email that a 0.2db basically doesn't exist and is false advertising.

I would appreciate any help and advice

Many thanks

The guys in Cyprus and outer areas tend to swear by the Invacom C120 Quad LNB, but not sure how much difference it would make in your situation, as they are using it to receive Astra 2D, (the BBC and ITV channels) and you won't pick them up with a 1.1m dish.

Hi
Thanks for the reply....No, I understand there is no hope of getting BBC or ITV here as long as the footprints stay the same. However My Channel 4 signal is just short of the required signal strength along with a few other channels.
Would like to see if an LNB will give that slight boost until I move house and get a bigger dish.

PS we get BBC Interactive channels here no problem at all.

You don't say what LNB you are using, there are a number of good quality LNBs around, but their performance can vary due to compatibility with the particular dish in use. Invacom are certainly good, as are MTI Blueline, I'm sure another couple of members will chip in with some more of their favourites. :)

For Sky reception, the Digibox can be as important as the LNB, depending on which Dreambox you have, the tuner can be pretty poor.

The Invacom C120 LNB is THE LNB for use with large dishes in fringe areas.

However, I would imagine that your dish is offset and the universal Invacoms aren't quite so deified.

The only 100% guaranteed way to improve reception is to get a bigger dish, I'm afraid.

BTW, Rolfw, the tuner on my Dreambox 7025 is almost as good for Astra 2D as my Pace 2600, but it isn't nearly so good for Channel 4 (i.e. cross polar rejection).

Presuming your dish is an offset 1.1m i recommend Sharp 0.3dB LNBF (white case)
I get better performance from Sharp than i did from Invacom 0.3dB LNBF on offset dishes up to 1.8m...

1.25m offset dish for Astra 2 28deg. using Inverto Black Ultra 0.3 quad lnb, Amstrad Sky+ HD, 80cm dish for Hotbird, Sky Italia, Tivùsat, Lenovo Ideapad Z570, 10 mbits broadband.

Here in Italy I use an Invacom twin lnb which gives good overall performance on both horizontal and vertical channels.
But a while back I experimented with a Smart Titanium twin lnb 0.2 and the results were interesting. I lost some signal on the horizontals but signal level on the verticals was well up, at least 10-15% better. As channel 4 is a vertical channel it might be worth you giving one a try. I bought mine from Germany for around 25 euros if memory serves me right.
regards
D.

Many Thanks for you replies so far.
My current Lnb is a galaxy ct500 0.3db....doubt is too good as it was given by the local supplier who tends to give cheap equipment.
Forgive my ignorance but not too sure what an offset dish is so wouldn't have a clue if my dish is offset.

As i said earlier I plan to buy a bigger dish when i move but just want a slight improvement as possible in reception until then

Thanks again

dm066... I sware by my MTI AP82-TW 0.6dB. I am fringe to 2D, and when I tried switching to a Invacom 0.3, I lost all 2D. With my MTI, I receive 2D H channels, but still no V channels. Hope this helps.

I have a INVACOM 0.3db hooked on to my 1.1 rotating dish connected to a dreambox. I get Ch4 24hours with a signal of 79% at night and 75% during the day. Ch5 are now on a stronger transponder so there aint any problems... you can now recieve ch5 on a 30cm dish from Malta! :) At night with the INVACOM 0.3db I also get the UKTV +1 hr channels and the transponder with the Fox News, Jetix, Crime & Inv Network etc with no problems at all. Before I installed the INVACOM 0.3db I had a regular 0.6db Universal LNB, so yes I've been much better with the torch look alike Lnb, you can get it for around Lm20 I think... something like that! :) EEEnjoyy!! :)

Lima20 is a little expensive

Im sure there must be someone who sells cheaper? There was a Satellite shop in Valleta quite a few years back who was quite cheap.

Im using the Inverto 0.2db.
