My apologies if this question has been answered before, I do not understand any of the jargon or terms used on this forum

I need advice on the best affordable receiver and viewing card for watching football, entertainment and movies.

1) Receiver that I can connect to my current sky dish

2) Ability to set recording whilst away from home

3) Ability to record one channel and watch another.

I have looked at this Illegal Link Removed, just wondering if anyone has used the VU+ box as they seem to do exactly what I need.

I have removed your link, not only do the receivers look like clones but they're offering illegal services, that we can not advertise.
I would advise you get a genuine, Linux based, receiver, like the VU+ box, rather than a cheap clone, but there are lots of other choices.
You will want one with dual tuners, although you can get versions with 4 tuners, and an internal hard drive, which you can fit yourself.
Why not contact one of the sites sponsors:

You might also onsider installing a motorized satellite dish, as they're are a lot of great satellites, and packages, available from the UK, with not much effort, and you are allowed to have 2 dishes, including one upto 1 Metre, without needing to apply for planning permission, in most cases.

Click on the first link, I provided:
https://www.satellites.co.uk/forums/forum-supporting-advertisers-special-offers.635/
Then click on one of the advertisers, like RADTV, and one of their posts:
https://www.satellites.co.uk/forums/threads/5-off-until-31-12-on-all-items.163453/
You cna then click on their Avatar, name, and start a coversation, or follow the links to their website and contact them.
Just be aware that this is a bank holiday weekend so they might not be available immediately.

In the meantime why not read a few threads, regarding Linux based receivers, like the VU+ range, and what they can do.

Also have a look at some of the pictures, of our members motorized dishes, to see what you can do. You don't need a massive dish a penta 85cm, or Triax 88cm, can get you the majority of channels available.
