They are relatively low production receivers. Development costs are spread over smaller numbers of boxes and is therefore higher on each box compared to something that sells thousands each week.
They are also something of a luxury item - why are something like Bentleys or Daimlers so expensive compared to a Ford? If you want the best you are willing to pay for it.
They are good - and they are driving the price up as far as they think the market will allow. Nothing to do with actual cost, it is maximising profit. Once there will be similar good boxes around they will drop the price.
