Why do you have to pay to watch the HD version of SkyNews?

The one thing I don't get is why do you have to pay to watch the HD version of SkyNews, when a SD version is available on FTA?? Doesn't go very well as to promote the HD package sky offers...

Two reasons I can think of - and they both really come down to money.

1) It's to encourage people to subscribe to their HD service.
2) It's so that it's NOT available on the Freesat platform - their perceived enemy.

DM800HD, DM7000 80GB HD with Asus WL330 wifi + 2GB usb drive, Skystar2.3, 2.2m Kinhuge Dish with Inverto LNB and Invacom ADF-120 feedhorn. Pace 1.3.25 and 80cm for Sky.

Here's a question, Why would you want to watch the election results in HD?:confused
