Why does it rain when i go to set up my dish

My Satellite Setup
2.4M fixed and 1.0m Dish& Technomate receiver,
My Location
UK
Having just moved home every time i go to go outside in the garden the rain clouds come along and it rains for the rest of the day, The only thing i have got done in a 2 inch pole in the groundO-no:-DOH2

On another note what do you guys think of H-H diseqc mounts over a polar mount and linear actuators i want to put my channel master dish up but and thinking of dumping it for a 1m dish and h-h mount.

1. Cos we're British, innit :-rofl2

2. Nothing at all wrong with H-H Mounts provided they are conservatively loaded.
 
Keep the CM and fit the polar mount/jack, much stronger in high winds.
 
What size is the Channel Master? 1.2 metres or less a 1224 motor will be good for that if you can still find one. Polar mount + actuator is probably the most stable. Diseqc and a big dish is great for those that have plenty of public liability cover.

I have 2x 1.2m channel masters and 1x 1m channel master the polar mount fits both size dishes the dish will only be around 100cm high of the ground. Are diseqc motors really that bad:confused: .
 
Diseqc motors are fine but are not designed for the wind loading associated with big dishes.

By all means use a Disecq motor on a big dish, but expect to replace it after every big gale when the internal gears have stripped :D
 
Yep, the dishes are heavy, not ideal for a DiSEqC motor. If you already have the polar mount then fit that, failing that a 36v HH 1224, if you can find one :D
 
Are the really that bad if they are why do all the sat shops online sell them:confused: Where i live the wind rips through here n the winter the valley acts like a wind tunnel

If i had one of these disecq motors i know i would have to change the dish that is not a problem. looks like i might be better off with new 18inch jack to go with the current mount i have also heard they no longer make the 1224 mount.

They aren't bad - provided you operate them well within their quoted capabilities.

eg They are often specified for use with "up to 1.2m" Dishes.

That's all fine and dandy, but some Dishes are mighty heavy and some are less so.

Also, the extent of exposure to the wind is a major factor.

I started with an 80cm Orbital on an H-H Motor on an exposed wall, but then refitted it with a Triax 1.1m.

It lasted two weeks before I put the 80cm back and now the 1.1m is on a Patio Mount in a sheltered spot but still on an H-H Motor (For no better reason than I had one spare!)

I took it off the wall because I was not at all happy with the treatment meted out to the Motor stub in anything above a moderate wind.

Yet where it is now is absolutely fine.

So H-H Motors are not intrinsically bad - you just have to be sensible with them.

What the true cut off is in Dish size depends upon the circumstances, but around 1m can't be far off the mark - but even then, only for an Aluminium Dish, not a Steel one.

You want big Dish - you go 36V!

You only want strong Satellites (of which there are enough), use a smaller Dish and H-H.
 
Have been looking about today and find their is a big lack of dishes with polar mounts about,
