Why is Sky Italia quite popular in the UK?

I've noticed on quite a few forums that Sky Italia has a smallish following in the UK, even among people who don't actually speak Italian themselves. There are people who seem to be choosing Sky Italia in preference to Sky Digital in the UK? Also, there are several online satelite stores based in the UK and Europe who provide Sky Italia cards to people based outside Italy and I'm wondering why?

What does Sky Italia offer that is not offered by other Pay TV packages, are they a good broadcaster of sport or something? Or do people just feel like being a bit "different" by having Sky Italia rather than typical Sky Digital.

PS: I know the forum description said no Sky Digital threads, but I'm assuming that Sky Italia isn't banned .

And seeing as in the population of approx 63 million a good number are of Italian extraction I do not find it strange at all. I did look for the exact numbers however the figures do not seem to be available, but in view of all the genuine Italian restaurants and Italian pizza takeaways in the UK I do not find it s trange at all

I doubt if there are that many individual subscribers to SKY Italia in the UK, buying the subscription FROM UK shops as they are too expensive compared to what it would cost to someone living in Italy.
I can only guess that anybody willing to pay over a thousand pounds to buy a subscription from a UK shop, is either loaded with money or he has few trusty friends who share the card.
If somebody living in the UK and has Italian roots, he would almost certainly buy a subscription through a relative or a friend living in Italy.
The subscription is based on a 1 year contract and paid monthly through a bank in Italy (or another satisfactory arrangement through a credit card).
Also one needs an Italian social security number and an Italian address in order to subscribe.
There is always a big risk that the card might become inactive if SKY Italia finds out the the card is not used in Italy.
(Please correct me if I have written wrong or incorrect information).
After trying for over a year to get a reasonably priced subscription to this package, I finally gave up as there is a limit to how much I am willing to pay for a package.

The fact that is part of the Sky Italia package does not answer the question,

What comment or point is the poster trying to make?, is he trying to say that this is the reason so many people in the UK watch Sky Italia?

Or is this just a random statement?
