Wifi router issues

Can anyone help with an issue that's recently started with the wifi connection I have at home.

Using the supplied router from sky for fibre service I have, I have found that when trying to use wifi on my phone or tablet (PC and ps4 is Ethernet).

The connection is fine but then it will start to pause and act like there is some kind of lag.

I'm just trying to watch the darts on Sky go via my tablet and its pausing and stopping every few minutes.

I've looked in the router settings and do I need to play around with the wifi channel? it's set to auto channel.

I can't seem to work it out some days the wifi is fine but then it can start to act up it will work but take ages to respond like there is some kind of lag.

Any ideas?
 
If you have an Android Device, install the App. "WiFi Analyser": It will give you a simple graphical display of which local Routers are active on what Channel - you cam immediately see if there's someone close by on your Channel and you can see which Channels are vacant.
 
The problem with wifi these days is that you can run out of usable channels very quickly if you are surrounded by houses in which there are other routers.

Well I've installed a wifi analyser app on my tablet and I don't understand what will be the best.

The app showed my router on channel 11 so I altered it slightly to 13 which looked best.

Now I run it again and it suggests using channels 1-10?

I don't get the signal strength as its showing -47 dbm, is this good or bad to say I'm 3 feet away from router?
 
It' could be signal overload, 3 feet is very close, move into the next room and see whats up.
 
Ignore the best Channel recommendations >> just visually interpret the graphic showing which Routers are on what Channel and pick one not in use.

I have tried holding the Analyser adjacent to my Repeater and it responds by showing a massive signal around -30dBm: It doesn't suppress it.

My main Router, at the other end of the house, shows -80dBm and I get only occasional drop-outs if I connect to that. Ergo, your -47dBm should be perfectly adequate.

Do you have a spare Router to try, just in case the one you've got is duff?

2.4/2.5Ghz video senders can interfere with wifi and iffy/cheap Chinese LED bulbs/lights have been known to dampen wifi
 
There are tons of stuff out there that will wack a WIFI signal, especially in the big city or in an area were the housing is close in.

Cordless phones, some cell phone towers or cell phones them selves can interfere, some areas even have traffic cams that are in the 2.5 or 5 GHz band, anything that emits an RF signal could be a problem, in some cases a secondary signal could be created when many signals are combined, this secondary signal is called a intermod signal, it can be created by cheap components or devices, also what is called harmonic RF radiation can cause problems.

Harmonic and intermod is a big problem in the unlicensed 2.5 and 5 GHz band, as there is no frequency co-ordination or planning, you get several dozen things radiating at different frequencies (in the same band) and you have an RF nightmare mess.
 
After played around with the channel think it's sorted it for time being.

When using the app I was surprised to see rather a lot of devices in the area I thought they wouldn't have a large overspill of signal.

My main devices I still like to use Ethernet connection though.

Not too many problems in my small village - plus I have Admin access to neighbour's kit so can run things to my our mutual benefit :D

Can you post an image of the MAC addresses , or list what you can see from the devices that plainly are not yours ?

Some modern technololgy works on exactly the same frequency, but really should not affect a WiFi signal, ZigBee connected units for example.
With home automation, there is a chance somebody nearby has kitted out their house with last years lamps in the sales and you are the unwitting victim.
