Will Chicks Survive?

Sad to say, I disturbed (dislodged, in fact) an unseen and unexpected (at this time of year) nest with three chicks (species as yet undetermined) in it last evening whilst doing some work in the garden.

Have relocated the nest to a nearby spot with reasonable cover and the chicks are still alive this morning.

However, we've not seen mum or dad and are concerned about whether their instincts can cope with discovering where the nest now is.

Also, we don't want to keep on checking as our presence will surely deter the adults.

Is it likely that the adults will find the chicks?

Is there anything else we can/should do?
 
Was it a ground nest or something in a bush ?

Any idea what make and model ?
 
It was well concealed in the fork of some branches of a small and unproductive Plum Tree I was removing.

No idea at all of make/model but chicks are feathered rather than naked, so hopefully not far off fledging (If fed). They appear capable of making noise, which should help.

Have used Search Engine and (as usual) advice differs between extremes.

I shall probably consult RSPCA.
 
If the original nest site has now gone, then you probably can't do more than you've already done, the guide dates for the nesting season is March, through to the end of July, but as we had a slow start it could go well past July.
 
Yes, all is late this year.

Saying that , I hard something has fallen in my chimney on Saturday morning and knowing there are seagulls there I though a chick did but there were no squeaks or noise and I carried on with my life . But yesterday afternoon I kept an eye on the nest and there was no movement so I dislodged the insulation from the fireplace made a bit of a mess and there he was . Quiet as a fish , so I climbed on the roof and put him back , the family reunited after more than 24 hours and happy . I hope he learned his lesson though .
 
Sadly, they have not survived.

I have to say I'm really quite upset about this, even though I don't think it could have been avoided.
 
On a more optimistic note, a sweep of the garden has revealed a further nest in a shrub due for pruning.

I defer to the nest.
 
Take heart Tivu in the fact that some garden birds like greenfinches will sometimes breed twice possibly three times in a summer if the conditions are right, dont feel too bad about it.
