Windows 10 Anniversary Upgrade

Is that good?
Not really ..
That tech app is supposed to support Sata III 6gbs hard drives..(faster HD w/r time)
So ..back to basics ??

Granted the current drive isn't a SataIII gbs ....but that doesn't mean I wouldn't want to fit one ..
Surely I should have been given a choice in the matter of App removal ..instead of Win10 imposing its will...

Further to previous Post about removing Apps, again it's a case of one man's sh*t is another man's fertiliser.

Haven't got Win 10 Anniversary yet, but assume it'll come on it's own eventually, probably at a most inconvenient time. From what I've read it sounds good though.

Yes indeed.

As a Windows refusenik of many years standing, I give it 8.5 out of ten - and only mark it down because I can't get under the bonnet.

You can avoid inconvenience by using one of the Tools I linked to earlier ....

So ...
that was interesting ...and a bit worrying for a moment ..
I'm back on Win7 now ...but on rebooting the original O/S ...
flags had been set ..somewhere to check all 8 of my drives in my storage unit ...which is connected via 2 x Esata cables through a pcie card (Silicon image technology)
I will try this again at some point but I suspect Win10 hasn't a clue what the pcie card is ..thus misidentified all 8 drives and flagged them for checking on reboot ..for consistancy.
They all checked just fine though it took aroud 8 minutes before win7 completed it's boot ...
I guess it matters not ...cos I'll simply turn off the mass storage unit if I boot to win 10..
Our survey says ...Na Ahhh ..
Win 10 dont like the unusual ...does it ?
Built for morons with basic systems I guess...

Thanks, I'll give it a go next week if it hasn't arrived by then as I'll have a bit more spare time.

Well I guess that must be 99.99% of all users offended in one go!:D

I rather thought the point of a decent mass-market OS was to make it usable by the plebs?

Sorry if anyone -was- offended ...but I'll stick to my guns ...insofaras ...it does appear Win10 doesn't like unconventional ...
perhaps I should have said ...built by morons ..for a conventional mass market..
I'm just glad it didn't fook those 8 drives ..and make me a load of work I really dont need..
lol

I've no knowledge of RAID, but aren't there customisable Linux (or other) OS's that are better suited to relatively specialist use?

Indeed there are G ..
I use Freenas (Linux based) for the 12TB server in my loft ...connected via Lan ...
This mass storage unit is really a backup unit for easy access via esata ...
I double back all important stuff to both units ...
So I can rebuild either if a drive in one or t'other fails ..
The 8 bay mass storage is NTFS ...as opposed to the Freenas server which is all GPT.
I dont have to use 'proper' raid by doing this ...
I spose it is sort of raid using JBOD in both ...(raid 0)
works for me and I can maximise drive usage.
;)

Started the upgrade of Win7-64
Ok fwiw win 10 is the new O/S on this hard drive
So the "assistive technologies" free upgrade\activation worked? Interesting.

Whats next guys ?
imo, get to know the thing, try personal fixes later, can break things if moving too fast. Keeping control over microphone, keyboard logging, webcam, are some first priorities. Webcam may be difficult to disable (unless if BIOS offers a switch), as MS reactivates it\reinstalls driver whenever it's turned of, needs a bit of tape :O) And put Cortana in chains, and send to jail asap :O)

O&O ShutUp10: download free antispy tool for Windows 10 should be safe to use on any system, and all settings reversible. Quite a vast number of options, gives a good idea about the amount of data MS tries to extract. A completely quiet system regarding personal\system info transfer to MS (+ god only knows who they share it with) needs some extra work.

And Classic Shell - Start menu and other Windows enhancements is updated for latest 10, I personally much prefer it to the hybrid monster ms currently calls a start menu.

In addition to making windows system restore points -which may or may not work- am always saving some disk images (Macrium Reflect) right after any fresh install (and later some more images regularly) so can revert in a few minutes if anything goes wrong during either normal use or tweaking.

No webcams or microphones on my Desktop O/S ...and I certainly would worry about those things if I installed it on a laptop...
Keystroke logging is definate no no ...so that _has_to go .....and an off switch for that silly beyatch is a priority...
I married a head pecker once ...and wished she had an off switch ...maybe if she did ..we'd still be married..
lol

Ref the roll back from W10 to W7/W8.1 - did anyone see the same problem that I did with 2 machines (both to W7), i.e. that the drive letters for my D: & E: partitions got reversed (easy to fix if you know how, which most here would do)?

I thought all the Calculators had gone to Silicon Heaven?

Had to roll it back, as new dvr and nvr is no longer compatable.

I can't install the x.cab file. Active x is unsigned, and Windows won't have it.
