hanelay asked of members if they could explain what wings were added to increase the size of dishes, and indeed whether they actually work. Would anybody replying please forward their information and knowledge on to me.

Wings are attachments made for the periphery of some prime focus dishes which simply increase the size of the dish. They are individual to the particular dish.

Out of all the dishes used that I have come across(in Cyprus),only the 2.4m Famaval have custom made enlargement panels wich extend the dish to about 3.1m.These dishes have holes drilled around the rim and the six panels attach to the dish and each other with about 50 nuts and bolts.looks nice but probably unstable with strong winds so have to be stabilised,specially for the critical alignment for bbc/itv.
 
Is parabolic painting a style or method? ;)
