Looking at that image CH ....
I just want to say a big thanks to the residents of Ireland ...for providing a element of ' weather-cock blocking' for Manchester.....
;)

Turned quite nasty here in the past few minutes. Not much rain, but very heavy clouds heaving into view and the gusts of wind are tending towards frightening. I may need to shelter behind some Peasants.

Always a good idea...I find that if you interweave them they make a passable windbreak.....

Until the windbreak ends up breaking wind itself....:-rofl2

It's pretty grim here, though the wind seems to have calmed down for now, but having to dry some clothes with the tumble failer with a window open is making me coooooold.... :-doh

I use only dried and seasoned peasants so the emission of noxious gases is kept to a minimum....

There has been sleet, hail, snow and now high winds since the weekend. More snow is forecast for Thursday into Friday.

With all that talk of gritters they were out on Monday near Sanquhar north of Dumfries.

As you can see they didn't have much of an effect on clearing the road so they must be the Gritter Shitters.

:-rofl2 :-rofl2

I bet they are not having fun out in the blizzards today.

:-lol

Last week there was an item on the local Look North about cars stolen when they were idled to warm them up after freezing up overnight. Anyone with sense knows you don't have to do that. Idling went out with the choke (what a pain that could be). Guess where it happened. Stockton-on-Tees.

That telegraph pole's looking a tad wonky... :-rofl2

As for idling a car, people aren't doing that to warm the engine, they're doing it to warm the car so they don't have to stand there scraping ice off their windows, too much hard work apparently...:-doh

Hey!!....I used to live there....hang on though, it does makes sense...

....and the phone box looks a bit draughty too....anyway, how come they still have a red phone box?

anyway, how come they still have a red phone box?

Cos a lot of the GPO phoneboxes (that particular one's a K6) have a listed building status, BT can tear the phones out of the boxes, but the boxes have to stay put and be maintained... :)

They look much nicer than the modern KX-Plus (the ones with a domed roof vaguely similar to the K2 & K6) imitations, and will probably last longer too... :)

Yep, Bob Freshwater's site is full of useful info for GPO stuff, even bought a couple of bits & pieces from him from ebay too... :)

IIRC, the red phone boxes outside the V&A in South Kensington were listed. They stand next to the wall which shows shrapnel marks from the bombing during WW2...

Somebody vandalised the ones near here
