Splitting off from the other alternative fuel threads, it looks like the UK government has got it in for users of wood stoves, probably the oldest fuel out there.

Most polluting wood burning stoves get the chop and coal could be outlawed under air pollution plan

The building industry has for years been putting a cap (sic) on construction of new homes with chimneys, and obviously coal has been in the spotlight for a while as a fossil fuel and the release of sulphur compounds but does anyone have detail on the research carried out that makes burning seasoned wood harmful ?

I'm sure the benefits of local sourcing and use only when needed far outweighs the disadvantages to health and the environment, the carbon neutrality of the material is already a given.
 
Oh dear. We might have to stop burning old railway sleepers.
 
It is seasoned wood, the Clean Air Strategy really doesn't go into detail on the individual burner types that are in the crosshairs, only that some manufacturers have a green sticker on their newest products.

Note the figure on Page 14 , plus the remainder of the document fails to mention aircraft pollution, commercial, military or private.

With all the snow on the continent, its possible that the 'great and the good' won't be able to have their annual planet saving jolly to Davos to discuss how best to screw us plebs ain our efforts to stay warm and get to work.

Oh! He's got it in for scented candles as well. Maybe there'll be an EU ruling on how many candles you're allowed on a birthday cake
 
I'm reading this thread with some amusement, having lit the log burner about an hour ago and just thrown two or three shovelfulls of anthracite on the Rayburn.....

Sadly, the population of our village is diminishing quite quickly and a reliable supply of peasants is becoming harder to obtain. There is talk of importing Eastern European peasants but the import tariffs and subsequent taxes may preclude this option..

I would err on the side of caution, check beyond the passport age for the seasoning quotient.
