My Location

We are camping near st tropez on the eastern end of the french riviera and hope to receive a signal off the astra 2d satelite using a 65cm dish and our standard uk digi box with a veiwing card. does anybody know whether I am going to be a happy camper or whether I am going to need a bigger dish.

suggests nearer 1.2m!

Not really an easy pack item for a camping trip :D

But there are other ways to get ITV1 and BBC Sports without using Astra 2d, but using other options on the satellites in the same "UK TV group" of satellites.

With a card viewing you will be able to get the "free to view" encryted versions of ITV1 on you dish - especially if you use those on 11973 v - which are not on Astra 2d but another satellite in the same "group" with a better "footprint" for europe than A2D!

And as for the BBC you can always use the "BBC Sports" streams....either via the Red Button on a BBC CHannel or Via BBC News, press Red, type in the "page" number 3001 and press select for the Sports services - again not on Astra 2d but another satellite in the same "group" with a better "footprint" for europe than A2D!

i am not very technical so i dont really understand what gear i will need to set my dish to anything other than Astra 2D forwhich i have a pre set Astra 2d Finder.

UK TV comes from 4 satellites, Astra 2a, 2b, 2d and Eurobird 1. They are all located between 28.2 to 28.5, close enough to be picked up by one dish, if aligned properly. So even though your dish is too small to pick up A2D, it should be able to pick up the others.

Once your dish is aligned to the satellites, You can add 2 ITV1 regions to your sky box by manually adding them SERVICES,4,4,input frequency, find channels, press YELLOW to put a tick next to the desired channels, select, and then these are added to the other channel list, accessed via the services menu. It may be that if your sky card is registered in one of htose ITV1 regions it will already be available on 103, but if not then you will have to add it to the other channels list

Hi,
Just to add a point that I have a place not far from where you are going in the South of France
and I can get Astra 2 on an 80cm dish but as the previous person stated it is easier to pick the channels from the other birds in that cluster. i.e. Eurobird.
Hope you have a great holiday if the weather is like last year you will need to be watching tele outdoors. ( 38 deg average for all of July)
