Author, screen and TV scriptwriter Harlan Ellison has died at the age of 84.
He was a founder member of the New Wave of Science Fiction writers although he hated to be called a science fiction writer. Having said that he was a consultant on many science fiction shows and films such as Babylon 5 and the 1980s reincarnation of The Twilight Zone. He also wrote screenplays for such diverse TV shows such as The Flying Nun, Burke's Law, Route 66, The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and The Alfred Hitchcock Hour. He wrote the Star Trek episode "The City on the Edge of Forever" which is considered to be the best in the series.
