XCAM wiped to virgin state

I recently upgraded my XCAM to 1.05 succesfully from 1.04.
After doing a recent Softkey update, i realised that the softkey file included some indents, that my Titanium card should be processing only.

I then updated again to 1.05, but after reloading the cam interface, it returned to a virgin state, with "XCAM MODULE" in the CI menu.

My concern is, there is now CI menu for this virgin state, and If i purchase a UCAS card, how can I activate the boot loader menu, if I can't access it?

HELP HELP HELP...please!

Pinched from JKF site

Downloading Main Program
1. Install and open the proggy Xcloader.
2. Select the download file and set the block item to Block2.
3. Press the connect buton.
4. Now go to your receiver and select Update item from CI menu.
5. Press “OK” to Activate loader
6. Wait until ‘Transfer Done!’ message on Xcloader program appears.
7. Shut off receiver even when it's not giving you the message it's finished.
8. Put on receiver, go into the CI-menu again, go to settings and select “default Key”.
9. Enjoy!
Downloading new Key Table
1.Select the key table file(softcam.key) and set the block item to Block14.
2. Press Connect button, then the following message will pop-up:
3. Now go to your receiver and select Update item from CI menu.
4. Press “OK” key of to Activate loader
5. Wait until ‘Transfer Done!’ message on Xcloader program appears.
6. Shut off receiver even when it's not giving you the message it's finished.
7. Put on receiver, go into the CI-menu again, go to settings and select “default Key”.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A Useful procedure if something goes wrong with programming the CAM - It works:

Many thanks to miazza for the translation

Just in case of a possible not complete firmware updating you can have the followings malfunctions:
- CAM shows an anomalous operation in “EMU” mode
- If you insert an official card you have frequent freezing
- Impossibility to program a new Firmware

Then you can try the following procedure:

1) Use a Decoder that powers the CAM also in Stand By
2) Insert the CAM into the Decoder (switch off with remote (DO NOT POWER DOWN AT THE MAINS)
3) Insert the serial programmer into your XCAM
4) Switch-on the decoder and go to a FTA channel
5) Verify the installed firmware (1.01 or 1.02 or 1.03T)
6) On the PC start the X-Loader Program

Now it’s where you have to trick your CAM.
All of you is aware of the fact that in Block 2 you should write the Firmware and on Block 14 the softcam.key.
In this case (and remember on in this case of anomalous CAM), you load the softcam.key in block 2 instead of block 14.

7) Press Connect
Go to the CAM parameters
9) Activate the loader
10) The programming starts
11) At the end of programming, do not exit from the program X-Loader !!!!!
12) With the remote, verify the CAM parameter
13) You should now read “XCAM Module” like a new virgin CAM!!
14) Now you can load the new firmware in the X-Loader and program it in block 2 of your CAM
15) Press connect (without doing anything in the CAM menu) and the firmware download will start automatically.
16) At the end of download, switch off the decoder (not powered) and remove the programmer without removing the CAM from the decoder
17) Switch on the decoder on the previously selected FTA channel
1 Read CAM parameter to verify correct firmware updating

Thanks for your reply hjg,
but I can't activate the CI menu on the STB, it has no menu, it just say's "XCAM Module". Both methods above, require this work.

I'll order a UCAS/Nextwave programmer, as both repair methods, do require one and see how it goes.

I reply on the post on my progress.....

I have exactly the same problem with an xcam in virgin state. I have tried many times to do the recovery procedure but XCloader never gets a connection from the cam.

I was originally in 1.4 and upgraded successfully to 1.5. I tried to reload it using the loader but it would not connect. I then tried to use 2 fun6 cards but this left the cam in virgin state. I cannot get it to load now no matter what I do.

I read elsewhere that if FRC is turned on it stops the loader connecting. Does anyone know if this is right and if it could still be active even though the cam is in virgin state - thus stopping the connection process?

Successfully restored XCAM!!

Just to finish the thread.

I received my XCAM/Nextwave programmer interface this morning from CardWriterBV (excellent service....guys)

1. Insert XCAM into a CI slot. (I has to use the bottom slot on my Topfield box, top slot would not load the firmware at all).
2. Goto a Free to Air channel.
3. Power off STB to standby.
4. Insert the CAM into the Decoder.
5. Insert the XCAM/Nextwave serial programmer into your XCAM.
6. On the PC start the XcLoader Program
7. Load the cryptfinal.bin (ver 1.05) in the file box.
8. Ensure Block is set to Block 2 and the com port are set correctly.
9. Press Connect, a message box will appear "Waiting connection"
10. Now power on the STB.
11. The firmware should download, automatically.
12. If the firmware does not download, power off and try again.
13. If it does, power down, power up the STB and check the CI menu that the XCAM now show's XCAM 1.05.
14. Update the block 14 with the softkeys, or update normally with with Fun6.

Good Luck!

I've just ruined my new xcam that came this morning, trying to update the firmware so I'm hoping that these steps will work when i get the loader board tomorrow, otherwise its even more money in the bin.

I was updating by funcard and i think that I programmed one of the cards as Funcard 2 instead of Funcard 6, so obviously it missed 950kb of the firmware update, what a pillock.

I reckon the loader board will fix it, just follow the info given above.

I have my fingers crossed so I am just hoping it turns up tomorrow and does the job, otherwise, I shall start to cry. Though at least with the loader board if it does work i wont make stupid mistakes with the funcards in future.

The loader card is clearly an amazing bit of kit, if you insert it the correct way up at least, once I put it in the right way, re-progged the card instantly, so now i have a working cam again! :ch2

I'm assuming that its recoverable whenever the bootloader is not corrupt (block 0 + 1). However with no power in to the cam, I cant see how you are going to get it to update. I guess you need to find another receiver to try it in, or maybe power it from a laptop's PCMCIA socket and use the loader board in that. Just guesses as I really dont have any idea.
