Just saw this on WOS for £109 with 2 tuners! Seems an incredible saving.
Anyone got one or does anyone want one?

No personal experience but they don't seem to last very long.

My experience with the 9500HD was positive until it died within 14 months...... PSU knackered, that's awful.

Is it external or external on that, might be worth fixing?

Internal PSU, from what I've read on other threads about earlier models it's the age old cheap s#*t capacitor use issue. In my book receivers should last 3 years plus and T.V.'s 5 years plus. I would need to swap out all the original caps for better quality ones.

I have lost count of the amount of caps I've replaced in sat boxes, it's built in obsolescence.
I worked for LG at one point in my life in their UK Factory (When they had one) as an electronic engineer, they put 85c caps in the SMPS on purpose, loads of other companies do the same as well.

I tend to only fit Panasonic or Nippon Chemicons these days, costs a bit more bit I know it will last.

Worth fixing that box tho!

Samsung had a big episode of consumer backlash over their LCD's/Plasmas dying just after a year to 18 months and it was the same reason cheap caps. Samsung stuff is crap in anyway, but yes I definitely need to get a hold of a soldering iron and spec replacement caps.

As a comment, got a DUX (Philips) TA 8000 aka Schneider TA 8000 aka Loewe-Opta, from 1978 ...still works perfect and sounds good, was on 24\24 7\7 for many, many years in the past, and still in regular use (at my cottage).

Some time ago took out a selection of caps (in the audio path + power supply), expecting to find many ready for replacing but all caps intact, no leaks and measured capcitance well within specs, just soldered them back in. Ready for the next 40 years of use? :O)

On a related note, where Phillips ever related to Marantz?

^^^ Marantz - Wikipedia

More stuff (caps) that keeps on working, got two Vantage HD 8000S production 2008, all well.

And got some old BBC mic preamps from 1955, all original caps (and tubes), noise and freq response intact, used for years in studio with all original components.

My oscilloscope is a HP1741A from the 1970s, still works perfectly and the capacitors are all fine.

Decent caps last a very long time, especially when rated correctly.

Love the look of that TA 8000.

A few years back I gave away a stack of ITT HIFI 80 stuff, it was all the high end models too, wish I kept it now :(.
