Hi I live in Europe (Germany) and want to receive Yahsat 52E satellite. I know this satellite is far away and I require a bigger satellite dish than normal size. How big dish should I have and how good is Yahsat coverage here? Is it even possible? (Sorry I am new to satellites I have only used local European satellites in the past with a normal size dish)

Al Yah 1 at 52.5E? No chance whatsoever at the current time. The European beam isnt being used at the currrent time & most of the channels are using the eastern beam which is centred on Saudi Arabia

Nothing at all? That is not good. I am prepared to pay for a super large dish if I have to. Why is European beam not used currently? Are they planning on restoring that?

You have no chance.

The European beam has some weird channels on it a while nback - none of the channels which I think you are looking for. It was on for a year or so then turned off. The frequency we could see has now been switched over to the eastern beam (11843V)

many of those channels have web streams - thats going to be your best bet

OK, I am actually looking for the Afghan channels. From looking at the map I think they are broadcast on the beam that targets Middle East (Saudi etc) and Central Asia and South Asia (Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India etc) looking at the map.

Sad news for me but thanks for the help!

OK I have another question! I looked at another satellite called TurkmenAlem/MonacoSat 52.0E it has 3 Afghan channels and according to that website FlySat TürkmenÄlem/MonacoSat @ 52° East Beams the East beam covers parts of Europe too. Is this satellite receivable?

The east beam is an easy catch on TurkmenAlem.

The only problem is that its fairly low in the sky so you need a nice clear outlook out to the southeast - east part of the horizon. Any houses nearby in that direction & you can forget it

Afghani tbv streams:

Impossible to tell, but Yahsat eastbeam works fine here in Finland 3m. Mena beam is weaker, manaed to lock few times

If you think it helps, here's what I get from 52.0E in the Eastern Europe area with a 1.50m antenna. Quite a strong signal on almost our entire continent.Of course you must not have physical obstacles in front of the antenna,as Analoguesat said.

Finland 3m dish. I think that more west from the Poland area would be too difficult to receive east beam.

On the websites showing footprint (Flysat beam, Lyngsat Al Yah 1 at 52.5°E - LyngSat Maps) the furthest layer is EIRP 49 which is only 55-65cm dish. On some other footprint maps of other satellites you have a layers for much lower EIRP and dishes of 1m> or even 2m>. I think therefore coverage of Yahsat is a lot more than what it shows, providing you get it using 3m in Finland. If only there was a map showing what could be received with a super large dish.
