Not sure if this is the right place to post because although its not a joke its sort of funny, so if it`s not can an admin or mod please move it to the correct section, cheers

Hi everyone, I hope your sunday has been a good one

Today I was out back in my garden, realigning my satellite dish (thats another story) when some gobby tart from the row of houses behind ours shouted to me out of her back bedroom window "Is that a CB aerial?", I looked up and pointed to my SkyScan wideband black pole scanner antenna I bought from maplin a while back (it`s a black pole about half a meter in legnth give or take a bit) that is snuggly nestled in the top of the pole thats supporting my 1.1 meter satellite dish.

"yes that one" she replied, rather than confuse the troll I agreed and said yes it is a CB aerial, to which she replied "yeah well you can get the ***** down, its wiping my telly out"

I replied to that one with, really, its not plugged into anything yet so it cant be wiping your telly out, she come back with "yes it is wiping my fu*king telly out and it has been since you`s moved in"

She then said "I`m going to report you because you need a license for them [CB radios] and you`re wiping my fu*king telly out", to which I replied, do it, report me, I`ll invite the ofcom fella in to see my kit, I do not own a CB!

Heres the best part about it though, this is how bad her mentality is, she tried blaming my satellite dishes for wiping out her telly too, she asked why they are pointing at her house, saying cant I point em at someone elses house hahaha, I tried explaining theyre not pointing at her house, theyre facing her house but pointing at a satellite a few thousand miles up into space but that went right over her head

After that she closed the window and proberbly went back to being a troll on internet forums

I`m modderately peeved at her but then again I cant help but feel sorry for the poor missguided fool and part of me finds her argument rather funny

I`m thinking of wratchet strapping my A99 (18foot CB antenna I have in my shed) to the back fence where her fence meets ours for a few months just for sh*ts and giggles lolol

I wish I still owned a CB just to play mind games with her but there again, lifes too short to feed the trolls these days

Moved it ............ as you predicted!

Well many of us here are Radio Amateurs and I should imagine most of us have, at one time or another, been (almost certainly wrongly) accused of culpability for TVI.

Often, it's down to crap TVs that don't comply with EMC Immunity requirements, cheap coax, etc, combined with the iniquitous effects of non-approved retransmission kit, senders etc.

I sympathise!

I havent quite passed my ticket yet but I`m aiming for it

I bet her TV doesnt even come down an antenna, and could possibly be cable TV or sky (I`ve not seen the front of her house where the sky dish would live but she did have that payperview boxing match that was free on RTL the other month)

I do however see a length of coax running from the back bedroom to the dining room so while I`m in nextdoors garden sorting the hedge out for the old man I might just snip a foot or 2 out of it for good mesure

I wouldnt be that bothered to tell you the truth if she`d have knocked on my door and asked about the aerial, I`d have invited her in and shown her that no radio equipment that gets connected upto the antenna can TX and I`d have even offered to go to her house to try and solve the problem for her but after the attitude I got off her she can go and whistle

I know if ofcom are called in they`ll tell her that a CB license has not been needed since 2006 and if they had to come out (which I seriously doubt they will because its not economically viable for them seen as how you dont pay for a CB license anymore) they`ll find no fault here with my equipment and end up giving her the £50 bill

I would not be supprised if she has those nasty PLT homeplugs or a dect basestation near her sky/cable box

I`m going to the council tomorrow for planning aplication form and I`m going to apply for permission to mount rather large scaffold pole on some t&k brackets to hold an antenna at gutter hight to recieve religious broadcasts on my shorwave radio and to mount a CB radio antenna on it to listen to religious CADs,

If planning is refused I`ll go down the lines of getting an old small trailor and I`ll put a telecopic mast on it with a 8 ele beam on (for recieve only ofcourse to keep things legal as I know ofcom wont let us CBers loose with beams or yagis on 27Mhz lol) then planning permission isnt needed as its a temporary erection and ccan be brought down when not in use

Failing that I`ll use my Antron 99 as a flagpole as I know planning permission is not needed for a flag pole round here lol

Get one of these hummers, it will really pi$$ in her corn flakes.

Wow!!!

I so want one of those, I dont reccon ofcom could touch me using that for RX only too :-righton

It would have to be one of those things that appear in the back garden when SWMBO is out doing her shopping, a bit like my 1.1 meter dish really lol

You know what I might just go to my local ham club this Wednesday and see when the next foundation exam is comming up, if I`m going to do it in the end I dont see why now is not the time ;o)

Do any of you guys who have their ticket know of any online resources to read up on the foundation test, I have heard that some test centers have you turn up, turn a radio on and then pass you but I know my local club isnt like that (thankfully) so I need to do a lot of reading

I`ve been into CB and radios in general for best part of 15 year now so I know the general do`s and dont`s, I`m all good on the NATO phonetics and know about giving my call with every over or at interminant intervals as per the guidelines and also about listening before tuning up my radio to make sure the freq is free first (the ammount of times I`ve heard people going to a freq and tuning their gear up over someones QSO)

I think it's funny how some people respond when they see antennas and dishes, my former landlord thought I was a satellite TV pirate when I had my 1M Channel Master dish sat in the kitchen complete with the broadband transceiver assembly fitted (before that part was sold on), it did look a little intimidating, but, I couldn't have used it to hijack anything cos I didn't have a clue how to work the broadband modem thing... :-rofl2

Took some explaining, especially as he is an inbreed, but it seems that if you put it in terms of "It's a sky dish, but bigger", then it usually sinks in, cos of course all the satellite TV in the country is just "sky" apparently...

Never did get to use that dish.... :(

He's probably cosied up to Yagi Bear.

I didn't bother with planning, it was at my old house and we got on really well with all the neighbours, the garden was 200ft long as were the ones at the bottom so nearest windows in the next road were quite a distance and because of the slope of the hill it didn't really stand out from the front of the house. It was up for four years before we moved.

You where very lucky to have neighbours like that then

I know where my local club is 2 towns over so I`m going to go for my foundation and put up a nice yagi or beam, my heart is set on it now lol

She wouldnt be that bad if only she`d have approached me in the normal manner by stopping me in the street or knocking at my door, thats the part thats peeved me off

Atleast when the council planning department or ofcom come knocking I know who is to blame (the lad next door seen me messing with my dish this afternoon so if he had a problem, he`d have pulled me up and the old man the other side is as sound as a pound and doesnt get on with her over her kids so I know they wont complain)

When I lived in the big city I use to love to crank up the 2KW on 10 meters, it would drive the neighbors nuts, but I was running legal power and had the correct filters so when the FCC showed up, I showed them the equipment and my ham ticket, they packed up and left.

About 3 weeks later some dingbat blond showed up at the door one night, and said that she was forming a home owners association, she wanted all the antennas taken down to enhance the looks of the neighborhood, I grabbed my spot light took her out on the lawn and showed her the 80 meter tri-bander, the 10 meter beam, 6 meter beam and the R8, also the 2 meter and 440 beams and omni's, I said that I have lived there for 30 years and would be grandfathered to any HOA, also 90% of the neighbors around me, like me and would tell her to get lost and move.

Never heard from her again.

Sorry for the story, too much coffee at this end..

Now, discriminating against Blondes is fair game, but Dingbats? I must protest ({})

Luxury. Wish we were allowed that.

!.5 KW is allowed, but it was nice to dust off the tubes at full power.

Her TV problems are probably very easy to sort out (like, dish out of alignment because of the cans of Carlsberg her 5-year-old-kid keeps throwing at it, interference from the beer minifridge that's next to their Sky box...etc...) so perhaps you should offer to have a look at her installation and if you do manage to sort it out, think of all the advantages:
1) You'll be her hero
2) You'll suddenly have the right to use any dish and antenna you feel like without her contacting the RSPCA to complain
3) You'll probably get a free beer (do make sure the 5-year-old kid didn't get a sip before you, though)
4) Everyone at the local pub will know that you fixed her f*****g TV and you might start a new career as a local installer!

Possible drawbacks:
1) Her husband might think you've been trying to seduce her and might want to start a fight with you when he finally wakes up from the alcohol-induced-coma he's been in for the last 7 months
2) She might want to become best friends with you and ask you to babysit her beer-loving 5-year-old kid every other day (which will cost you a fortune in the long run as she probably won't provide the booze)
3) If her f*****g phone or her f*****g washing machine ever starts malfunctioning someday you might be expected to sort it out for her
4) She might introduce you to her younger sister who is still desperately looking for love despite (!) being a Vickie Pollard lookalike

So, it's up to you to weigh the pros and cons. But a good deed never goes unrewarded.

It's very interesting to read posts like this one. They show the real life & relations in different countries, and you can't read about such cases in any newspaper or online news.

Regarding the actual problem, I would NOT reccomend going into her house and fixing ANYTHING for her. Because, if you do so, she'll decide that you're guilty, and all future problems will be again associated with you. Let her go by "official" way. Here, we live in a 9 stage building, 2 flats per stage, so, total 18 families. When roof gets leaky, it needs to be fixed, and funds should be distributed equally between the homeowners. It was real pain in the backhole to collect that money once per 1 year or so (roof has rubbery coating, which requires minor service per year basis), so once I get angry, and created a paper, on which, all neighbours confirm that they do not pay any future expenses regarding the roof repair, I pay them all (I live on last floor), but, considering that fact, access to roof, and what and how can be installed there is solely on my decision, and I can ban any neighbour from entering the roof, without any reasons given. This worked like a charm. I have "own" roof, where I install dishes, ham radio antennas, waveguides and all other stuff associated. Shortly, our building became quite popular in local talks, and many people refer to it as "new hewston" :) So my idea is as follows - install as much as you can (and in allowed limits) antenna like resonators, whistles and so on :) became the local popularity, and she'll leave you alone.

As far as the "troll" goes, get an old "C" band dish, (or "Ku" but "C" works better) point it at her house, slap some funny looking hand made antenna on the front, if she asks about it, tell her the American CIA asked if they could put it up as someone had reported a "mysterious cell" in the area.

I did this with one of those things you clean the cobwebs out of the corners with, I sprayed it with aluminum paint, looked awful mounted on the end of the old "C" bander, but it sure shut one nosy Nic up.

Here in the UK hams and CB ops (maybe not CB ops but its nice to be nice lol) are advised if they are approached about any interfearence they should first try to fix it using filters or other means before reporting the problem so I like to do the same if I`m causing anyone problems

even in this case although I`m not the one causing any problems, if I`d have been approached in the correct mannor, I would have offered to go and check make sure she had the TV aerial plugged into the TV and any decoder boxes turned on, no dect by the decoders or even have a looksee to see if the strong winds had wiped her TV aerial out, just to prove its not me causing any trouble and so I could say "I told you so" lol but not when she`d gobbing off like that

That is one of the best ideas I`ve heared yet

I have loads of junk here too that I could use to knock up some kind of contraption lol
