No photo's of my first car...it was so long ago LOL....

It was a red Morris Mini...APT287B....some time later I sprayed the top half matt black and the bottom half Hammerite blue.....which did nothing for the already creeping rust and eventually it got scrapped...

No photos that have survived of my first car either, an Austin A35. I used it for a short while and then bought a damaged MG Midget with the view of putting the engine and front brakes into the A35 as the Sprite/Midget basically uses a mix of A30/35 and Morris Minor running gear.

However when I got them both together I looked at them and thought soddit, I'll fix the Midget instead! I then ran that particular Midget for several years.

First car was a clapped-out Hillman Minx in 1960.

Took my test in a driving school's Morris Mini-Minor in 1959, they had the first Minis in town.

Many cars since then, Mini-vans, Alfasud, New MK 1 Golf GTi, (ran it to the ground, you did with those  ), Polos - my current car.

55 years on the road. Serious RTA 18 months ago, maybe God's way of telling me to pack it in :-doh

Rootes group's answer to the Mini; Hilman Imp. Had it for 2 years despite all the head gasket problems and followed it up with a couple of Vivas; one HB and then an HC

I hated school and often wasn't there my older brother owned a car repair garage, I was working all my days out of school at 14 and earning money , when I was around 15 he had moved premises to a car breakers yard, I was going to school less then more money:),

I have driven all the cars mentioned around the scrap yard, apart from the mustang :(, some great old cars, I loved the little Hillman imps :).

despite all the head gasket problems

From memory they all had that problem apart from one certain type of engine, I am 47 now so going back a few years,

The Marina engine and box would go for ever, they was just a rust bucket,

My first was an unexciting Renault Clio back in '98 at university. Underpowered 1.2l engine was a little slow but comfy inside for a small car. Before that I used to borrow my parent's cars. Crashed my Dad's Range Rover (the original style - not the fancy new ones) by sliding into a snow plough in my first year of driving. He wasn't too impressed but a week after we got it fixed he did the same thing - he never mentioned my incident again. :D

Mine was a green Morris Mini in 1971, with hydrolastic suspension. I renewed the rear subframe and I sprayed the car metallic light blue, I was not happy with the performance so I mated an MG1100 engine block to the 850 gearbox with an MG 1300 clutch. I revamped the carb with a blue needle and spring. 0 to 60 I could do a standing start and beat a TR6 any day (and often did) but top speed was 66 MPH. The torque was incredible again no pics.

edit
Forgot to say front tyres only lasted about one year

Citroen BX 1.9L TGD Estate with the Meteor trim, engine didn't run (timing belt broken), car was a rusting heap, never got anywhere with it despite best intentions, so it got scrapped, probably could have got it running today though, but, nah, these days I'd rather have a Honda Accord Tourer 2.2L iDTEC or a 2CV... :D

Nostalgia time. My GTi, pic taken in 2004 while it was still roadworthy!

I once changed the head gasket in 3 hours.... then it took me 2 days before I could persuade the engine to start. :-rofl2

I should have had it skimmed but we only had the 1 car and the nearest machine shop was 20 miles away.....and at 21 you always think you know better :-doh
