Your first car, what was it please?

Found a pic of my beloved BEC :D

On a ferry somewhere off the west coast of Scotland!

Left headlight must have been cracked as it misted up & it was before I had under bumper fog lamps fitted. Working up on the Yorkshire Dales Moors at the time it was regularly foggy!

That'd be before we were so overcrowded that the building plot now costs more than the house you build on it and they make especially small furniture to go in the show houses so they look so spacious!......... oops, sorry! Time for my meds :oops:
 
Prompted by earlier info re. my vague desire to acquire a Renault 4 (Still sans pig), I've done some research and UK prices for runners are even higher than those requested in France: Possibly, it seems, because people buy them in France and drive them back to the UK to sell on for a premium.

I have extinguished my back burner.

Maybe a Triumph Spitfire would do, instead (Had a couple of those in my 20s).
 
Maybe we should start another thread; 'Realistic fantasy cars?' I've always fancied a couple of Citroens - the DS21 coz it's bonkers and the Traction Avant (the Maigret car for those of a certain age), and some of the older Peugeots - like the 403, although I'm sure the novelty would soon wear off.

I'll get me beret!

I worked at Malham Tarm Field Centre in 1988 & 1989 so one of those two years. I left on Jan 4th 1990 after a spectacular falling out with the then boss! ( he got told where to stick his job sideways :-rofl2 )

Thank you for that........late 60's/70's had a close relationship with the west coast....many lovely places.

From the pic you have found AS is itpossible you could read and identify the lettered details on the lifebelt......again thanks.

Yep, thanks Martin, tried that but no luck.....really of interest to me....had a good number of friends on the west coast and a few good distlleries on the East**!! :D:D

Thinking about it I think the ferry route is either Lochranza - Claonaig or one of the two routes to Skye. It was a long time ago, but I tend to think its Lochranza - Claonaig.
 
A bit slow on this thread but my first car was a 1972 MK I Escort 1300GT

Don't have any pics of it that I can find but I do wish I still had it :-ohcrap
 
My first ever car (I had lots of bikes before that) was a 1979 Subaru 1600 4 wheel drive. It was a worn out banger with a 10 cm big rust hole at the back, engine was rattling (big ends), drive shafts were rattling, exhaust was rotten and the cooling water would simply "disappear" (I did blow the engine after a while, but I got a second hand engine and kept driving it) . But on the positive side, that thing went ANYWHERE! Deep water, offroad hills - no problem. I used to go on these off road tracks in the desert where people with Jeeps were thinking they just done some incredible off road driving, and suddenly this rotten banger would appear next to them - made them look silly at times . Priceless moments :D
