I have been wondering for some time:
Just why are there so many 1.2 Channel Master dishes with polar mounts in the UK?
What Sat-constellation meant that people in the UK needed 1.2 meter semi-pro dishes with polar mounts to watch tv?
As I have gleaned from nostalgia postings here, BSkyB and similar started on 19.2E, then moved to 28.2E while going digital.
But those 1.2 must be from the early nineties or perhaps late 80s.
In Sweden (and Denmark to a lesser degree), people put up polar-mounted prime-focus dishes to watch German, Dutch and French TV back in the 80s.
Did the UK public hunger for Dutch and German TV in the UK too?
Or was there even then a need to watch Saturday footie with a weird sound-track?
And why Channel Masters? Weren't they more expensive than many of the prime-focus PMs?
