HELLO ALL!!

Has anyone on this forum tried experimenting with a 1m dish and motor using different LNBs? I was just thinking about this and it would be interesting to find out. If so, did the results fair better, the same or worse than Inverto Black Ultra?

Just a thought! :D

There are a couple of threads where our members have built fabulous contraptions that rotates various lnb's onto the main focal point at the end of the arm. This is mainly to allow Ka- Ku- & C-band though rather than just to test various lnbs.

The principle is the same though.

Yes, Tony, most of us I guess.

The thing is, headline specs for Noise Figure, Gain, Cross-Polarity Rejection etc don't amount to a hill of beans: The quoted figures normally only apply over a part of Ku band and the plot of each characteristic vs. frequency is by no means flat.

As the peaks in performance will vary between LNBs, swopping out an LNB to achieve improved performance in a desired part of the band is a common practice.

Everything is a compromise!

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

There are also other considerations to take into account. Three that spring to mind

There will be LNBs with feeds that are better matched to a particular dish shape.
Selecting one satellite , or the broadcast spectrum over another will affect the results, and
Some LNBs provide better results with long runs of cable, some with shorter.

With the third, there is also the matching of the receiver to the LNB , along with the user interface when selecting a transponder to scan.

Everything is a compromise!

Agree absolutely. When I had my 1m Gibertini motorised I tried differing LNB's, before settling on the IBU as the best overall solution. True, one or two differing LNB's would be marginally better on certain frequencies but I'd stand by the Black Ultra.

I had decent results with an IBU, but (as per many other reports) it failed after two years.

I replaced it with a Vision Twin and get even better performance .... whether the LNB is "better" is a moot point, but it certainly integrates better with my system.

An interesting read gentlemen! I am thinking of conducting my own tests as I have my own private stock of LNB's (all new, boxed). GT Sat, Smart Titanium, MTI...and a few more. Quad, dual, and single ones. Been toying with the idea for little while. :)

If that is not enough than what about that: Bigger dish will always be better with average LNB than smaller dish with the best LNB! :-rofl2
