PS: laptop shutdown problems yesterday seem to have related to partially-blocked ventilation causing high CPU temps which automatically shut down the m/c - took some of the easily removable covers on the underside and gave everything as good a blast through with compressed air and the temps seem more normal now. ("Best" solution seems to be get "down and dirty" inside the m/c to clean the heatsinks and so on - but that appears to mean virtually dismantling the m/c and taking the m/b out on this Samsung NP-355 :( )

All look good. Thanks to Chris for all your time and trouble.
May I take this opportunity to wish you and all the admin staff and members all the best for 2018. Great website. Whether its a new receiver or a new satellite the advice is here.

Thank you..

One little comment, with 100% width + current layout, sometimes much (sometimes most) of the forum is made of empty, white space. Also implies lots of eye movement to read stuff.

Strange, I've logged out of iPad and laptop, cleared down the cache and still no joy. I can see the equipment that each member has, but not where they are in the world.

Could this be related to the earlier differences noted about staff members?

Looks good, I was using tapatalk but doesn’t seem to like my account details for this site and so using safari on my iPhone to view the site.

I've been through this thread to collate all my concerns:

I don't find it clearer just larger.

I can't see as many post headings per screen which means more scrolling down per page.

I also can't see any difference between any of the different style offerings. I tried them all hoping to get back to before - without success of course.

Alt-S no longer posts a reply. I use this widely across all forums I inhabit and to not have this is a MAJOR disadvantage.

Ctrl-I no longer italicises but brings up a Favourites menu. Ctrl-U and Ctrl-B also bring up spurious menus. With the absence of any formatting controls on the quick reply box it's a PITA to have to manually insert formatting tags.

With the disappearance of the little blob to click on to take you to the newest unread post - clicking on the post heading now does this - there's no way to simply just go to first post of the thread if it's already been read.

There's no way to bring up the smileys list.

There were a couple of other items I thought of last night but annoyingly I can't remember what they were!
EDIT - remembered two.

When hovering over the Inbox and Alerts the menu no longer unfolds. You have to click to bring up the menu.

When hovering over thread tiles a summary pops up. This was mildly useful in the past but now is too large and too slow to clear.

I would have liked to have one and only a section with all the satellites on the arch, whether they are in the fringe or central area.
It is good that the Forum has ended the year in a new "suit".Going to give content as this new looks.
Wish you all the best and Happy New Year 2018!:-bubbly

Once I have the new software running smoothly I am planning to re organise the sections to make them easier to navigate and also to bring them up to date.

If you click on the date next to the authors name it will take you the start of the thread, at least it does on my desktop version.

Is it me or has the max width shrunk in a bit today?

Yes I've reduced the max width slightly.

Ctrl-I, B U all work correctly here. You need to click the gear wheel icon top right of the posts to change the BB code on or off. (far right from the smilie icon)

Smilies are also working ok from the menu and have a standard / special toggle
