I always use dd-wrt or other open source firmware on routers.
For main routing i just quad core pc with linux or Windows Server.

Good spotting, yes it's a R6250

take a look at DD-WRT for R6250 kong mod (I have used this before i found the x-wrt firmware for my router I have never looked back) or AdvancedTomato :: Downloads for NETGEAR R6250 Tomato is also very good
