Bye bye Maplin / Toys R Us

Do you happen to know the brand oswoo, do you know who they really are?
I've never seen them, but I will google them and have a look at screenshots of the webpage and stuff, that will give me a clue.

.....and it's awful, £28 for a 32GB USB stick! WTFF! lol
Sort of price I would expect to pay for a good 128 GB Sandisk stick!

Not really at all surprising - did have a look at some of the stuff on offer but found nothing "cheap" that would be of interest to me.

And this is why they went down the pan.

Even with the closing down sale, still to expensive!

You never know, if they keep the "Clearance prices" at the current levels then they will sell very little (except to the "gullible"), and that will leave an awful lot of stock in the warehouses - so, maybe" at the end of the Clearance sale there could be some very big reductions as the Administrators get desperate to sell off as much of it as possible?

It was the haunting of Toys R Us that caused it's decline.

After this the sales dropped out, never to recover.

Maplins Fire Sale - now min 20% off everything and somewhat more on many items.

Interestingly, the first price drop was on 16th March, and the 2nd one today is on the 23rd - so it looks like, at least ATM, the drops are coming on a weekly basis.

Also, as I asked in the CCTV thread this morning, what does anyone think of this Lorex 8ch 4 camera kit for £343.99 as I would like to consider buying it?

Well that's a Hikvision based kit, which is a decent brand. But it's analogue, entirely your choice but I would go for a IP PoE based setup.

Where is the redress for faulty goods if you buy from a company in administration?

Many thanks.

OTOH, as a "complete beginner" in CCTV, I assumed that the fact that it is advertised as a 1080p image system would mean that it is a digital, rather than analogue, system!

That has "crossed my mind" "not a little" - and will be an issue that must be addressed before I consider actually putting my money down!

Yeah it is technically 1080p but its over composite, it's an improved form of analogue technology they are using. But it won't get near an IP system sadly.
Maplin sell that type as its easier for people to upgrade an existing system if they have already run Coax.

World of Satellite have a Technomate system, that doesn't look too bad for the money and at least good support from them if needed.
