OK, calling myself an Old Timer because I've been out of the Country for the last 13 years and haven't played with satellite since that time.
Before leaving I had 3 receivers - an old analogue unit, a Sky unit, and a "digital" receiver. Don't remember the make / model. Had a 1.2m dish in the garden and 2 fixed dishes mounted on the wall. Loved catching SNG feeds which is what I used the 1.2m dish for. The fixed dishes handled 13E and 19E at the time.
I now see that Sky are using 28E, and Hotbird is still going strong at 13E. Moving into a rental now I'm back, so won't have opportunity to run a large dish, but would like to get caught up with current technology.
My goal is to be able to watch HD UK TV (Freesat channels) and be able to record. I'd like to mess with some other features that E2 units provide, although I don't even know what all the features are yet!
I also have been running a local media server and using a LibreElec Kodi box for streaming. Have a lot of x265 10-bit content. So if I could leave that box for the bedroom and use the Sat receiver to run Kodi that would be fabulous.
So, I'd like a receiver that would allow me PVR features (am happy to install hard drives).
Don't want a slow processor.
Am seeing multiple recommendations for Octagon SX88+ but can't find the processor specs :-( Anyone know if it is a 600MHz box, or over 1GHz?
I assume the SF8008 would be a more powerful box.
I see the Mutant HD51 is being recommended as well as the Edision PRIMO IP S2.
What would recommendations be for me?
And can anyone list the firmware providers of E2 software so I can look them all up?
Although I'll not be doing much feed hunting to begin with, I would like to in the future. Don't think I need 4K. Would like at least 2 tuners though.
Would also like to know what the multistreaming thing is if anyone could point me to a resource that would explain it.
Thanks for helping a returning satzapper!
