So it looks like the Italian multistreams will have their new home on the Italian beam of 9°E (otherwise pretty unused, which does make you wonder why they used 5°W in the beginning considering they’ve ended up having a restricted France/Italy beam for 5WB ).

Some posters on some of the French forums linked to from that French post/thread seem to think that everything except for Fransat will move from 5°W, but I struggle to believe that the French multistreams will be moved off - there’s only two transponders of them unlike the fairly large selection of Italian ones!

I wonder if the 5WB beam will be skewed in a way that’s any more favourable to those of us in Northern Europe, considering the southern part of the “Transalpine” area won’t have any services targeting it!

When Eutelsat 5West B arrives @ 5 west tracking will show that it has passed 5 west in the next few days this is normal & will corrected later.

There are 3 Ku band beams for Eutelsat 5 West B transmissions are due to start from 5° west next week,

This will allow Eutelsat 5 West A to move from here to another place this will also be the end of C band transmissions from 5° west,

It has been established in this thread that the main transponders will be for Fransat & French Multi-Streams & they will probably be on the new Transalpine beam,

There is an Algerian spot beam that may be used there has been no Algerian TV from 5° west for a few years now & with the reduced capacity of 5 West B this may not be possible.

As Algeria has its own satellite now @ 24.8 west AlcomSat-1 FlySat AlcomSat 1 @ 24.8° West
So the spot beam on 5WestB will not be needed unless it can be reconfigured for another region ?couverture.jpg

Thanks for the information! Any clue if the Europe beam (not the transalpine) will be broadcasting Fransat? I'm in Norway and until now I get a pretty good signal from 5WA...

It will depend on how many customers they have in your location so we will have to wait until Tuesday 21st Jan when transmissions will start,
It is pure speculation as to what beams they will use probably both.

What is moving onto Eutelsat 5 West B:-
FlySat Fransat Packages will continue encrypted on E5 W B
Free TV from France - LyngSat French FTA TV on E 5 west B soon + FTA French TV on other satellites,

Due to the reduced capacity on the New satellite due to a damaged solar panel some current Italian TV has already migrated to Eutelsat 9B as there will not be enough capacity for all the TV that was on E5 W A.

Hello William-1, I'm not sure this a false reading, now 5WB is at 5,88° W.. maybe a change of strategy? ;)

Yes it is a false reading as mentioned in this thread the tracking is automatic & does not know when the satellite stops this will be manually corrected soon.

Eutelsat 5 West A is now 0.2° inclined so the change over to Eutelsat 5 West B cannot come soon enough.

I saw an article that there is a HEVC test for the Italy DVB-T2 transition on air now on eutelsat 5W A!
Why would they test on 5W A when they move their multiplexes to 9E?!

Itálie spustila test HEVC kanál v DVB-T

Translated to English:

Italy launched the first HEVC test channel in one of the existing terrestrial networks to inform viewers about the transition to the second generation of terrestrial broadcasting (DVB-T2). Test channel is distributed in HEVC in 720p format.

To receive a TV channel, viewers need a newer TV or set top box with HEVC support.

Test channel in HEVC has already appeared in one of Mediaset's distribution multiplexes on Eutelsat 5 West A 5 ° W satellite broadcast in multistream mode (freq. 12.669 GHz, pol H, SR 35000, FEC 2/3, DVB-S2 / 8PSK, multistream, stream 1) "HEVC Main10 Test".

In Italy, the switchover to DVB-T2 / MPEG-4 will begin this month and end on 30.6.2022. The first phase allows for so-called transition multiplexes in DVB-T2 / MPEG-4. The second phase will begin on 1.6.2021, when the shutdown of existing DVB-T networks and the transition to the final multiplexes in DVB-T2 / HEVC will begin .

Most programs in the final Italian DVB-T2 multiplexes will be in HD and 4K.

Not all the Italian multiplexes are leaving 5 west Rai looks like staying here more will be revealed next week.
