Usals problem & alignment

Just checked with hm-sat-shop and their stock is from last year so looks promising. Just ordered one and will return the one from Amazon. Will see how that goes. Will report back once I get the new motor. Thanks for help all.

Just received the one from hm sat. Checked with Stab and they said the motor is from 2011. Is there any difference between them if one is produced in 2011 or 2017 ?? It seems no matter from which company you buy from the majority of stock is circa 2010 - 2012 maybe?? Does this make any difference to motor quality or how long it will last?
 
I suppose it is more down to how they are stored and if the earlier ones were of a different design (or prototypes).
 
To be honest I found Stab motors to be total rubbish. I had loads of trouble with one I got from an Ebay seller in Wales. It was years old and he would not accept it was not working correctly. In the end it went dead. I replaced it with a Technomate TM 2600, works a treat.

So I suppose motors will last the same no matter the year they are produced.

That was my thoughts but found it made very very little difference, its not as if its a metre or more difference. A rough guess would be 50 cm.
I was told the lower down a dish is mounted the better to avoid wind damage. Use a sat tracking app on your phone and it is interesting to see what blocks the signal. My posts about Stab were way back in Jan 2018.

I think 50cm for me will make a difference. My line of sight is 15 west to 56 east but any lower and I wont be able to see 15 west or probably 5 west.
 
Ok, just set up new motor. Motor at 0. Pole is plumb. Centered dish on motor pole. Set to due south. Then align to 1 west. Picking up sats between 33 east and 5 west only but signal not that great. I'm going wrong somewhere but not sure. Ideally i should set up on 3 west as its closer to my true south but not getting any signal on 12739 v ? 1 west peaks at 75% SNR. I find that I have to slightly nudge the dish to the right at 26 east to get the signal upto 40%

I would set it on 1 west and then move the whole pole to get the strongest signal, not forgetting to tweak the elevation angle. Just tilt the dish forwards or backwards a fraction.

Yes, thats what I did. For some reason its not tracking the sats good. I set the motor to the right of 1 west since that would be closer to true south. Then try to peak signal at 1 west. Followed a few guides and not sure what could be going wrong. Unless something not right with dish face on motor, something not centered on dish even though its centered on motor pole??
 
I discovered a spirit level was not accurate enough to get the pole plumb. Got a digital level and it was amazing how much out of upright it was.

Yes i changed it to dishpointer values of 2.1x west and 53.46x north before i installed the motor. Not sure what else to check. Other than getting digital spirit level. If I could set up on 3 west wouldnt that follow the arc better than 1 west? 3 west is only 0.8 degrees away from longitude

Worth the money. I use mine a lot as its very hand for getting accurate readings for loads of jobs.
 
Are you currently receiving signals, from all the satellites, just not at a high signal quality?
When setting up you set everything to 0, then enter your correct Latitude, and Longitude, on your receiver, send your motor/dish to a suitable satellite, in this case 0.8W, using your receiver.
You then physically swing the motor/dish. on the pole, until you get your strongest signal quality, on 0.8W.
Once the dish/motor have been moved, to 0.8W, the 0, on your motor, should be pointing at your Longitude position, 2.1W
You also adjust the brackets, to peak your signal, carefully tighten everything up, then send it to your furthest East, then West, satellites, to check the signal quality.
You then send it back to 0,8W, and make minor adjustments, on the brackets, to alter the arc your dish is travelling, then send it East, and West, again, to see if your quality readings have improved, always moving it back to 0.8W to make any adjustments.
You keep doing this until you're satisfied.
It's a matter of trial, and error., to peak the signal quality, on the available satellites.

Cheers for that. Not getting anything east of 33 and signal quality starts dipping after 19 east. When the motor is on 0 on my due south i send motor to 0.8 west then move the motor/pole to peak signal. How do i adjust the brackets? Which brackets are you referring to? Do you mean brackets on the dish or motor pole?? Usually when i tighten the motor brackets the signal drops 2 %

Here I disagree , the motor is turning to ± 1.3º EAST on the scale ( 2.1 minus 0.8 = 1.3)
