Hi guys,
my post here is to ask you if I should change my sat receiver in order to feed hunting
I have a motorized sat disk and I use my VuSolo 2 sat receiver in order to make blind scans.
I have OpenATV image on it and I think it's the best one to make a blind scan in the more accurate way.
But I doubt that mu VuSolo is the best solution to use to make some feed hunting.
Do you think that the Octagon SF8008 will be a better option?
Thanks in advance for your reply.
Roberto

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

Whilst I have fully exploited the SF8008 features (or the images), I have found it is a far friendlier receiver to set up than the Vu models.

Do you think that blindscan is so accurate?

I've only used the blind scan on the Octagon, the others were customer purchases, I was asked to install them on multi-satellite systems.

blindscan on sf8008 is one of the better ones in my opinion.

it was the only receiver out of 3 i had, which managed to find the low SR TP's on 45w - china radio on a blind scan.

neither my edision mio 4k, or octagon sx88 4k found those TPs.

the sf8008 also holds a picture on a weak signal pretty well, when compared to others.

another option is the DM900 \ 920 - but i dont have any experience.

u might find this thread useful in your quest...

ANYTHING has to be more user friendly than the horrendous E2 software.

i disagree - i have used E2 for over 10 years, initially there is a lot to get your head around, but once you master it, its great, very versatile and customisable - how you can call it horrendous, is a shame.

oh and by the way, the SF8008 is E2. :)

Sometimes (well, everyday...) feel like buying some electronics, this topic's question is exactly one I'd ask :O)
E2 is a must, openpli on my solo2's, excellent combination that works great here for all current interests and needs.
4K and every other advancement can wait, but tuner sensitivity would be a very important factor, 8008 vs solo2.
Anyone with 1st hand eperience \ comparision?

Ive owned 2 E2 receivers. BOTH of them were so bloody awful I got very very close to taking them outside and beating the sh!t out of them with a 25lb sledgehammer. Dreadful software, totally illogical disecq settings once you got away from the really simple stuff. I took great delight in throwing the Vu+ Duo very hard into the recycling skip at the local tip when it died from motherboard failure. The feeling of satisfaction as the front panel splintered as it hit the far side of the skip was most satisfying.

Somebody offered to buy one of them once after one of my rants about the bloody thing - I declined saying I wouldnt inflict such a crap receiver on anyone. :-rofl2

SF8008 is now off the possible purchase list as I certainly dont want a third E2 rx :D

I fully respect your impressions, choices and opinions. But must say I can't understand how it's possible :O) apart from maybe before my adoption things where buggy, less evolved, unreliable etc, I don't know about that.
Long ago as a complete blockhead in the matter, took me just a few days of playing, fiddling and discovery to get the needed basic grasp of enigma, very quickly realized it's immense configuration and adaptation possibilities, great pc \ ftp \ network interface etc etc. Now year after year of daily use with 100% reliablity, never looked back.

well there is a SAVING GRACE with the Octagon SF8008 for all those ANTI E2 ludites - which is, from the recovery menu, you can actually install the NON E2 firmware - the same firmware which ships with the NON E2 Octagon SX88 and Octagon SX88 4K models.

so you can actually have the best of BOTH worlds - quite an unusual offering, and quite clever marketing too.

there are memory 4 slots on the SF8008 (boot slots), so you can install 3 x E2 images in 3 slots, and the NON E2 image, in the 4th slot.

each image has a multiboot option in the restart. (or u can choose an image from recovery menu - accessible when switching the unit on, whilst holding the button in)

here is a link which demonstrates the firmware:

here is a link to @william-1 giving it a glowing review:

William had an issue with Heritage TV (H.264) on the Optima, does the non -E2 version stuffed into the SF8008 recreate the issue, or has a firmware update for the SX88 fixed ?
