ive noticed on 7w - there are 2 x MBC2 channels, one at 11.276 V (stronger signal 12.7db) and one at 11.559 V (8.5db)
are those signals about right for a 1.8m? cos my west arc seems ok if so....atm gone from 1w sky news 17db - to 7w - 8.5db

Its like anything you do for the first time its not easy ! But you get better with practice. My first cm polar mount took me a couple of months of on off tinkering to get spot on. You eventually get a feel for aligning the mount, i never worry to much about the angles. the cm1.2 mount comes with angles marked on. i set these to be about right. then i concentrate on getting the "arc" rotating the mount on the pole. i use the picture charts to tell me which way to rotate the mount. when this is right i then fine tune the angles. now its an easy couple hours instead of months.

You are only a few miles away from me so my settings for a polar mount should be reasonably accurate for you.
My settings for 0.8W are as below.

Polar Mount Man Axis Angle = 52.02
Polar Mount Dish Offset Tilt = 6.75
Polarisation Skew = +0.55

I should have said these settings are for a prime focus dish.
You have an offset focus dish so will need to factor in the inbuilt offset angle of your dish.

H-H motors seem far simpler, lol - u still got that 1224 ? how much...

I have several 1224 motors in various conditions ranging from brand new and boxed to used in need of a de-rust and repaint.
All are at huge wad

Stick with what you have, until you find its shortcomings.

Then you will find another polarmount works a treat on a heavy 1.8m reflector

However I'm sure a33 will be along soon to explain why the 'modified' angles in the attached image are superior :p

Absolutely!
It will save you the steps in comment 3 and 4 of post #219 by @zorrin , or at least make them a lot easier!

I have seen good refurbed ones sell on eBay for just over £300 but that was a while ago.
Other times they have gone cheaper but in need of a bit more work.
As long as the motor, cogs and central axis shaft are working OK the rest of it is just cosmetic that can be restored.

They sometimes pop up as part of a Channel Master 1.2m motorised system on eBay, it was a popular combination.
It is worth buying the entire setup just for the motor if it is working and good value, chuck the dish away if not required.

1.8 - 2m according to Dave @ SSS - he contradicts himself at one point, as he does say 2.4m in one segment, then 1.8-2.0 in another

you see it being used twice on a 1.8m

You should be able to get a 1.8m channel master on one, I think there was a reference to that earlier in this topic re the SSS videos?
I think that the 1224 in the name referred to dish sizes of 1.2 to 2.4.
The adapter plate that was shipped with these motors had pre-drilled holes for a Channel Master 1.2m dish and possibly an IRTE 2.4m dish?

Well, I looked into this one.

The good thing of this one is:
- it starts with the zero-alignment, in steps 1 and 2, before the arc-tracking east/west in steps 3 and 4. I think that is the right order.
- it doesn't copy the wrong procedure for steps 1 and 2, that is in the STAB HH100 manual; and is alas copied at several other internet pages. I've never seen a rectification by STAB.
(BTW. If you have to do adjustments like these on a USALS setup, it might be that the USALS-zero is not at zero anymore. So following this above adjustment, you'd have to check if the dish should also be adjusted (rotated) on the motor axis a bit.)

The bad thing is:
- in step 3 and 4: Usually after adjusting the motor axis elevation, you have to adjust the dish declination in the opposite direction, to get at the proper height again to reach the arc when at due south/north. So I would place an extra arrow in the picture.
- but even worse: I would do exactly the opposite of steps 3 and 4! When you aim beneath the arc in west and east but OK at zero (step 3), the dish's declination is too great! So the dish must go a bit upward, and the motor axis should go a bit more downward.
- so here, the STAB manual (which describes the opposite measure) is correct (as far as my knowledge goes...).

BTW: The picture in this post is not bad (in Dutch): Afstellen Diseqc-motor
Though I'd start with steps C and D, and do A and B after that......

There are in fact many motor setup manuals.
It is not easy, when you compare these manuals, to find that they sometimes contradict each other, and to have to determine which one is right. However, most motor manuals do have their own merit(s). I'm not sure which one would be my favorite.
So in the meantime you'll have to cope with many manuals, and separate informative posts about modified motor angles, motor fine-alignment procedures, actuator triangle ratios, finding due south procedures, etc, etc...
Certainly from reading all that, you'll gradually understand motor setups better and better....

well i have a like new 1224 motor here, but never really taught it would be able to comfortably drive the cm 1.8m dish.
how would it be like in windy conditions would it hold the dish very solid or would there be dish movements in windy conditions?

do you guys think the 1224 motor would comfortably handle the cm 1.8m ?.
