Hello satesco and Butacas thank you very much for the help i apreciate it i will read more about this card and yeah the vu+zero 4k has this signal bug if i remember in the hardware that cant be fixed

I'm a radio amateur and wanted to receive Eutelsat imagery that's being broadcast from EUMETCast DVB-S2 Service.

I don't have much money to spend on this hobby so all my equipment is used, apart from LNB that was cheap enough to get a new one.


I'm having difficulties with using TBS5927 receiver and tuning to Eutelsat W2A.

I hope someone can help a dummy answering few questions :-)

1. The dish I've got is a 100 x 110 cm, got it used and it's apparently bent, here is the photo:
Would such dish be usable at all, will it work if I try to unbend it?

2. The TBS5927 I've got from Ebay and I'm worried if the unit is in working condition.

Here is an IP Tool example screenshot from the Eumetsat manual:
What I've got from IP Tool is:
Quite strong Signal but zero Quality - is it normal?

3. Not sure if that helps but I'm attaching another two screenshots:
That's how Eutelsat 10A should be looking on the CrazyScan:
And here is what I've got :
Obviously something isn't right with my setup.

4. The LNB I've got is INVERTO SINGLE LNB BLUE 4K HDTV DVB-S2 40mm ASTRA HOTBIRD IDLB-SNL410-PREMU-OPN | eBay

Would anyone please tell me what I'm doing wrong with my setup?

It looks like you are not aligned to any satellite. The high signal strength on the TBS panel is probably just the high noise level that you see on Crazyscan. If you have a very short LNB feed, the level noise can be like that.

Even with a bent dustbin lid you should find something somewhere. Using Crazyscan, set it up to scan a 100MHz or so that includes a strong signal. See @william-1 list here Just Sharing This - Strongest transponders

Set the scan to one polarisation and to loop continuously. You should be able to find something by moving the dish around the vague position in the sky.

However, I'm not native spoken english, but I'm not sure if your dish would be considered 'warped', or rather 'bent'.
But I agree with Trust: Give it a try!
After dewarping/debending, it might be a good idea to also check the LNB position: Is it still centered left/right?
(After taking measurements, also the proper focal point distance/position could be calculated and checked.)

Indication of signal strength often is just a sign, that the receiver receives a signal from the LNB (so that you know that a working LNB is connected).
To find a (any!) satellite signal, I often use a cheap sat-finder. After that, I fine-align (or check at what satellite I have landed) with the quality level on the receiver.

Would be nice if you get it functional!

This application (TBS ip tool) is not the best option to try, since sometimes it is difficult for them to block the signal, even if the dish is well aligned and there is a good signal, it behaves like this.
 
Wow, thank you everyone - you shared lots of actionable items!

I ordered Bluetooth equipped satellite finder so it will help me to align the dish properly. I will try to un-bend the dish, will try different cable, will try attenuator and also pointing it into different directions whilst I wait on delivery.

I will share my findings here, thank you very much again!
 
Strightening a dish reflector is to be done in small stages. best remove the feedarm and backplate before you start.
 
And a dish that really shouldn't be installed outdoors.


I've seen Plasticine bend less.

Is that always the case?
In a 'normally' warped dish, I can imagine that that could be preferred.

When it is warped/bent in such an asymmetrical way as in the photo, I could imagine that the center of the dish where the bolts of the dish mount are, is also a bit bent. In that case I would maybe leave the backplate on, in the first attempts to dewarp/debend.

But I am no expert on this...

Hello everyone,
I hope all is well.

Here is little progress on my setup:
1. unbent the dish following your recommendations - thank you!
2. using V8Finder BT05 dish pointer, I'm getting same sort of readings as from the IP Tool (Quality is zero, Strength is over the roof), I tried several different transponders on Eutelsat 10E as well as Astra sats:

3. Tried to use attenuator:

with strange outcome result - I've got an overload notice with that, presumably it's malunctioning:

4. Eutelsat 10A along with the freesats like Astra birds on 10-28E are just about over those threes:

I'm assuming it counts as an obstructed view?

5. Will try to re-position antenna to the roof to get a better view with no trees in line:

6. If that fails, I will plan to take dish outside of my location in order to discount local RF noise that takes signal strength up to 90.

Am I missing any obvious things in here?

Those apps aren't completely accurate so it's possible the trees could be obstructing the line of sight. Perhaps it's the angle of the camera but 28.2°E should be lower in the sky than 10°E.

Generally for Astra 2 an offset dish face should be near to vertical, and the LNB skew (when looking towards the front of the dish) should be set so the cables are exiting the LNB between 6 and 7 o'clock. Have a look at local Sky dishes to check you are pointing in the correct general direction.

The FEC for 10714H 22000 is 5/6. It may be worth trying 9°E as the transponders are much stronger than 10°E. The Europe beam transponders on 5°E are also strong and you should have less trouble with the line of sight.

I’d very much like to purchase it.
 
Many of us would want to buy a TBS 5927 (= TBS 6903 in USB version).
But these are no longer manufactured and probably the best TBS tuner every built.

I completely understand the demand, but sooner or later also stuff like the TBS 5927 is likely to appear on the second hand market.
I'm experimenting with reception of digital satellite signals and I'd be happy to pay EUR450/GBP400 for a working one.

stock was available up until the Dont Look Up app was released. TBS cant make them anymore so if your in the market for new hardware you either going to to get gouged or have to find used.

Yeah, I realize that, and therefore I’m looking for a used one.
