Arte on 13E,no picture, sound ok. What s happening?

I just wanted to know if you could scan other channel in, and get a picture. Checking not only signal quality, but both Horizontal and Vertical polarities.

As other members state ARTE works normally, the problem must be with your receiver or satellite setup.
These channels work fine ,as all other Hotbird channels!
I was just pointing at the fact that "ART "& Arte invest are not connected to Arte
Are there any other 1080p channels in FTA? Do they scan in and are viewable?
Yes plenty!! Poland Italy Morocco...all work fine!!

I don't think you are understanding the significance of i p and level 5
They are encoding methods. If your receiver doesn't have the corresponding decoder, it won't work. In particular level 5 requires more RAM.

My suggestion is: try recording a sample. Check the file is big enough to have included the video. Then try playing back on a PC and see if ffmpeg can decode it.

My Edision Primo will record a 4k stream even though it can't decode it.

Thank you a lot for enlightening me in this respect.
i ve had this Arte channel on for years,(at least 10 years). I use it to tape films which they won 't replay,or which I wish to keep.
My "problem" started a week ago.
Would they have suddenly, last week, swapped the p for the i?
Or is my receiver getting tired ,not decoding what it previously decoded?
So, level 5 also could have been suddenly introduced..
Then,if it s only me,it must be my Comag weakening in a way.Too bad,I use Arte a lot.
I ll try another receiver if the issue lasts.

If someone had an older recording of the TS transponder or at least the channel, it would be possible to find out if a change was made.

or maybe I ll write them ....

I've been watching ARTE for many years, since it was SD only. The french HD on 13E used to be the one because it includes the original sound on films, but I have the version from 5W now. I don't have an LNB on 13E now, so I can't check it.

I wonder if they are relaying an hbb-tv stream on 13E. That could be different in order to reduce the bitrate over the internet.

Quite a few years ago the BBC started dynamically switching i & p on a GoP by GoP basis on their dvb-t2 mux. Some receivers, notably Sony needed a software update to handle it.

what do you mean by " switching i & p on a GoP by GoP basis on their dvb-t2 mux. "
is that experimentation,to see which system worked better?
and what is GoP?
then why would >Arte do that?

That was on terrestrial TV, not satellite.

This is running now on 13.0E 11681H. It seems to be in progressive format, not interlaced.
It could vary from program to program perhaps

Maybe the Olympics have taken over their normal distribution system and they are using a fallback alternative source. If you wait until the Olympics are over and see if it returns to normal.

There has been a change in the method of encoding as you can see from the digitalbitrate.com graph. Things are now VBR rather than CBR but it is not 1080p, it is still 1080i with a regular GOP. It IS however now High@L5 for the H264 codec, so maybe your STB doesn't support this format? Rare but it can happen.

It seems that Comag's problem will be in not supporting Level5

The Olympics hypothesis( provisional scrambling of the French "bouquet" to preserve the so precious Olympic pictures...
But then most average viewers shouldn' t be able to watch it from July 13th onwards?
How do I acquire this L5 compatibility?

ARTE is back on my good old 2013 receiver.....End of black screen.
*It was a pleasure to discuss technicalities,I have learned quite a lot,and hope to keep learning from you all!:-biglaugh:-clap:p:-lol
