Help Required TM-5402 M4 Subtitles everywhere, can't get rid

@Satspot Greatly relieved and the replies I was getting here, especially your image of "subtitle dialogue box " I'd never seen that dialogue box, so I started hurting for it. Thinking now I might cut off the Subtitles button

Yes you follow this sequence of button presses.

Press Remote Control button Subt. Choose Subtitles option. If the channel broadcasts subtitles you’ll see the different options available. Once you select an option press OK on the remote and you’ll see a blue tick to the left next to the option you selected. Once you’ve finished watching that channel follow the same sequence and select the last option Turn Off Subtitles. That blue tick will disappear and just press the Exit button on the remote. The reason you were seeing subtitles on every channel that broadcast them is you never turned off the subtitles.

We have the reverse of the problem; our Technomate TM-5402 M4 Lite will not display subtitles. We are a small independent cinema in North Wiltshire (UK) and have been taking the fees from the Royal Ballet and Opera for many years now, always showing English subtitles during operas. We orginally had a Technomate unit until 2024 but when it failed we replaced it with a Technisst unit. All was fine until February 2026 when that unit stopped working. We were advised to go for a Technomate TM-5402 M4 Lite unit. Picture and sound were fine but no subtitles; no matter what we tried, we could not get the RBO's feed to show subtitles. Technomate had said that are addressing the issue with a firmware update, but that was a couple of months ago and since then silence. Anyone else have this problem? Any "magic" fixes out there? Any recommnedations for other units. We are desperate! Many thanks. Graham at Movies@Malmesbury.

If you just need a cheap receiver that works with DVB & teletext subtitles then the Openbox V8S can had for ~£20 from Ebay. I have this receiver and just tested both types of subtitles. The only issue may be when set to output 1080p50 the video is unstable, 1080i50 works without issue.

Thanks so much for your comment. We'll certainly look into that.

My problem, a while back, was really with getting all the options to show when pressing "SUBT" button. Do you have original remote? Tempted to try to replicate here & now, but won't as my remote (original!) is erratic

Hello!! The thread about

Technomate TM-5402 M4,empty EPG

seems to have been shut. So,here I am with my empty EPG;
Why was the thread shut, when my story was still ongoing?

My news: Awakening
Last week, I had set up time and date upon starting to use the Technomate receiver.
Empty EPG.
Yesterday ,I noticed the date and time displayed were wrong.
This morning I corrected both.
And...EPG came in on "certain" channels: Rewind, some BBC1 and 2,but not on others. ITV yes,C4 no... Blaze yes...
So,it seems to be slowly responding,as a gradual awakening.
I'm still waiting for a Technomate answer to proceed with the updates.

I'm sorry about that.
There seems to be an (over)active moderator, sometimes shutting (and even deleting?) threads, without giving a clear reason, neither to the poster(s), nor to the readers.
A bit unpleasant, I find, to say it with a bit of English understatement.

Thank :rolleyes:you!

Victory!!!
I finally managed my EPG problem. No need for Internet or High tech solutions..
I had to set time and date in the 24H format
AND set the whole to "auto"... Then bingo it works....

So,much ado about (almost) nothing?:p:wub:

At least you got the moderator part correct.......

Je suis content pour toi.
Now you can read the EPG all day long instead of watching the tv shows.
et regarder le Grand Cactus..;car la bbc en ce moment est bien molle!!!

and watch that Belgian marvel of TV fun,"le grand Cactus" on some evenings when the BBC is ..;a little boring.
