28e levels in south france

Hello! My dish is a 120...
Am believing this is the reason for you having more trouble than me. I do strugle as well, the 130 (x140) needs fine adjustments (mm's) over many days to finally land on a useful balance between transponders \ wanted channels. Then the final tightening of all bolts ...without disturbing anything. Got a very solid pole, otherwise wind gusts (Mistral, thunderstorms) would reduce my hard aquired adjustments to zero value.

I seem to get ITV1 better than BBC1....any technical reason for this?
I know Channel 5 (and its offshoots) has a different modulation making it easier to receive.
Which of the ITV1:s do you use? ITV1 uses 11344 H (2F), 11386 V and 11386 H (both 2E).

the 11344 V 27500 ,itv1 HD and itv+1 sd. Seems to work better than others.
I think it s the "Meridian" version.

actually i must correct
11343.5 V for ITV HD
11344 H for itv+1 sd

weak signal this morning, the sd works a tad better than the HD
the sd TP also has a series of ad filled channels some of which are quite entertaining, including musical ones.

The otherway around - ITV HD is on H and ITV +1 SD are on V.

ok ,I must say I never paid attention to ITV until the BBC sd bunch vanished...
I finally spotted their news ,at strange moments.
and the channels with old series ,and" Hitchcock Presents". Memory lane!

Both transponders use the same modcod but in my experience reception of Vertical transponders is weaker than the Horizontal.

Did you adjust your LNB's skew? Extremely important in this situation as both use nearly the same frequency.

Look for a function called Cross Polarisation on your meter:
X-polarisationA2VL.webp

or alternately use your spectrum display for minimum level on 10847 Horizontal

X-polarisationA2VL2.webp

This morning both appear weak & unstable,on the verge of watchability, (barograph 10to 25%,unstable not watchable)
Now (5pm) 25 to 37%, still unstable & watchable both HD & sd
Until last week they were both more stable ,of course quietly watchable.
They gradually increase with night coming.
With little difference between the V & the H

^^^ Adequate dish size for the intended sats\beams = goodbye problems.

Remembering the period in Norway when having the CM180... uk beams became as stable as any europe beam, 24\24, in snow, rain, all year.

Am reasonably satisfied with the inexpensive 130x140 but knows very well that it's borderline, any small changes to the beam, a slight misalignment, weather, satellite wobble, whatever, and the minimal margin is gone. So maybe one day, if still interested in uk tv, this > Gibertini OP 150 Alu 155x166 cm Hors tout GIBERTINI

Got the phone app working. Started with a (big) dose of network hassle, got wifi connection, FTP & more going but phone app (and pc signal meter) "connection refused". Finally suspected the latest installed image update, it should be ok & better than the older image, but something changed or evaded my basic knowledge regarding network setup \ password reset \ whatever.

Found an old solo2 complete backup from 2 years ago, reset the network and miracle, all well. Implied having to redo blindscan, set favorites, setup etc etc and what not, but always good to gain experience and revive old routines.

Great satisfaction in the end! Standing by the dish and slowly nudging those mm's here and there, as always resulting in a gain of some crucial pieces of dB's + getting that best possible balance between E\F\G. Car SOS saved!

I find having real-time signal levels on my phone or tablet one of the big advantages of a linux based box. I used to lug a mini TV and satellite receiver to the dish in the good old days along with a long extension lead.

^^^ Enigma receiver + wifi + phone app = absolutely great.

And yes, those were the days... dish fixed to chimney, up on the roof with television + receiver, feeling like an explorer diving into fascinating research in an unknown world of wonder and mysteries. Still remember the joy and awe when my very 1st image from the heavens appeared on the tv :O)

Oh yes, especially in the analogue days when the sparkly picture would slowly flicker in from the noise. The very first channel I tried to get was the Discovery Channel from 27.5°W.

Yes I remember those days too.
CNN, BBC, Discovery and TCC were available at 27,5 W. CNN and BBC (BBC was encrypted using SAVE so I bought a decoder directly from BBC) were strong as hell, Discovery was ok and TCC was really weak using half transponder mode.

What are the rules in France for satellite dish size without any planning permission ?

It's great to come back to this forum from time to time to refresh my sanity that no much how "tinkinering " I do some channels are just a lost cause, and this time of year so many of the channels do not work, the challenge is I fear I have got my dish as good as I will get it, earlier in the year I was receiving pretty much everything (in good weather), so i need to fight off temptation to change things cause I will only make it worse than now.

Do you lose the channels as the day heats up in the sun? If so it may be the lnb internal oscillators going out of tolerance in the heat. Try cooling the lnb with damp tea towels (dont obscure the bit facing the dish of course) If it works see if you can make a cardboard sun shade to keep direct sun off the lnb

I did that on my monoblock (for Astra1 19E & hotbird 13E) works really well, and makes the LNB last longer.

I wonder in what way the sun influences reception. Through seasonal variations, the signal reception seems to be better day time or night time without apparent logic...
Typical is a Wimbledon match:starts loud and clear, freezes and stop around 8pm...comes back at midnight for the summary!

Heat introduces noise, so it makes sense to keep the LNB shaded. This is why winter-time reception is generally better and why some people cool the LNB with liquid nitrogen!

I just tried the Turks on 42 E on my moveable 80 cms, theey come in fine, despite the heat...
