WITHDRAWN - no longer available : 2.8m Precision/Elite Satellite Dish Setup

Hi,

Due to a garden re-development project I have some 2.8m satellite dish equipment to give away free of charge. The equipment is listed below.


1 x 2.8m single piece professional grade prime focus spun aluminium satellite dish, manufactured by Precision/Elite Antennas, suitable for Ku-Band and C-Band.

1 x set of three feed support arms for the 2.8m dish

1 x Heavy duty galvanised tripod ground stand and frame for the 2.8m dish including dish mounting fittings. This is a three man lift, the king post has 10mm thick walls and is 140mm extrernal diameter (5.5 inches)

2 x Ultra heavy duty Renold linear actuators, these are the heaviest and most robust actuators I have ever seen. They make Thompson Saginaw, Von Weiss and Venture actuators look like bamboo canes and rubber bands.

1 x Precision/Elite Antennas motorised skew controller, again, monstrously heavy duty.

1 x Precision/Elite Antennas outdoor wiring cabinet, fully wired up to control the actuators and skew controller.


The equipment came from S4C, the Welsh national broadcaster who bought it brand new from Precision Antennas.
Collection only. no part lots, it is collect the lot or nothing at all. Clowns, dreamers, time wasters and tyre kickers all welcome. The deal is simple, you turn up with a truck and some manpower, remove it all and drive away, no other options.

POSSIBLE ISSUE:
The dish might be land locked, since it arrived I had a brick archway built that the dish cannot pass under. It would need to go over the top. Or, there might possibly be a route out to the main road via adjacent gardens who do not have an archway.

If it is not gone within a month it will be cut up for scrap.

Collection Location:
Surrey, UK, approximately 6 miles inside of M25 motorway from either J6 or J7.

I have another identical setup that will remain stored away at the back of the garden. I got two complete 2.8m setups from the Welsh broadcaster S4C.

The way things are going I think it is a big chance the scrap man will be having the free setup.
So far it is just clowns and dreamers who have enquired, not a problem, all I will do is count the days down, get to the end and phone the scrap man.

You asked me this same question on another forum, what makes you think you will get a different answer here?
Here is my reply that you were given on the other forum.

Read my original post it says

"Collection only. no part lots, it is collect the lot or nothing at all."

No "actuators only" and no shipping.
I am giving this away free, I am not getting involved in shipping.

If anyone was serious about having the setup they can load it all onto a 3.5 ton flat bed truck and drive on a ferry.
I transported two complete 2.8m setups at the same time on the back of a 3.5 ton flat bed truck using an A frame made out of wood.

Here is how I did it, easy to do, hired the truck, built the wooden A frame, drove to South Wales, dismantled the dishes, loaded them onto a truck and drove home.

Sorry, I didn't receive the notification from the forum.
It's a shame I can't make it from Poland.
And my friend can't store the whole thing at his place.
That's why I asked about just the actuators so he could pick it up, but if it's just the whole thing, it's difficult

For those slightly interested in this antenna, I hired a Ford flatbed dropside late last year locally, two days worked out at just under £100 though there was a £900 deposit. I think the width that could be carried was 2.3m flat (with sides up) but with the correct props and straps a 2.8m should be a doddle. Diesel will have gone up since then which requires factoring in.

If it was an IRTE 3m reflector then the issue of girth (oooerr!) goes away, a one man lift as well.

It was a doddle, two x 2.8m complete setups on one flatbed truck, all done in a day.
Problems are the same as horizons, for people of limited vision.

Have you attempted to reach out beyond the satellite hobby 'enthusiasts' ? a dish of that size could be useful to those working on hydrogen line detection.

I've recently become interested in the idea of building my own small-scale radio telescope. A quick online search finds a few instructions on how to build this using a satellite dish. These suggest a

If the reflector is absolutely perfect then I would suggest an advert.

Thank you for your suggestion and the links.

I have not bothered reaching out to other groups apart from one other forum. I want it gone with minimal fuss and effort. The scrap man solution does the lot in one go, turns up, cuts the dish in half, loads all the gear up and is gone. Offering it for free was probably a mistake on my part, it is just delaying the inevitable.

As the setup is offered for free I am not bothered about parabolic integrity, however, the reflector parabolic shape is as good as I would expect, multiple string tests with 0.5mm thick nylon cord reveals only a very small gap.

To be honest, I am of a mind to pull the adverts offering it all for free and just get on the blower to the scrap man tomorrow, I would be rid of it by end of day.
