Sorry but feel obliged to open this thread as the " Astra 2F Testing Reception Reports " is a dialog between just a few members of this forum ( all praise be ) but not of any factual use to me ( although must check to see if this bird is on the move or not ) and other members that cannot understand these readings.

They could have communicated to each other by PM instead.

Hope when this bird is on the move that peeps will post here!!

Just my opinion.

Regards

Everyone is welcome to join in, but it looks like the many that were posting at the beginning have lost interest.

First indication that the satellite is on the move will be when test signals stop being transmitted from 43E.

Glad I am not the only one frustrated by the length of time the testing is taking. It will be great when the bird starts to move. I have been watching the testing thread with interest, but until 2F arrives at 28.2E we will not really know what to expect from it.

Well if more people had got involved it would have been easy to estimate the beams and know which test corresponded to which beam.

Most people dont have the equipment to monitor transmissions that arent "properly modulated"

Maybe not but there were a lot more people posting a couple of weeks ago than there are now.

So what do you deduce from this fact?

That most of the current posts are just redundant. It will start to become interesting again when real DVB signal are transmitted ;)

I know what it means to me.

All the reports are absolutely fascinating, and if I had the right test equipment Id be joining in, but they are meaningless in seeing whats going to happen when shes slotted at 28E.

However all the reports do show something very clearly - there is a vast difference between the power received on different tps' and this has been noted in more than one location, so SES have been testing the various beams. How this translates to real world use at 28E is going to be absolutely fascinating in a few weeks time.

As Astra 2D and 1N,2F interest me so long as it is hard to received UK beam;that is important and not the programs, even if I would like to see the BBC package from this position.

Not necessarily, although I'm pretty certain Solly's estimations of the beams are probably correct. The thing is the charts that have been posted only show how the spectrum was for a fraction of a second at each frequency. This is kind of misleading because many of those peaks the test only lasts about 10 seconds and over that period the power is wound up and down slowly. So those charts could show any power level between zero and the test maximum power, giving an appearance of huge difference from one scan to another, and one location to another even though in reality these differences don't exist. For this reason I've done most of my tests on peak hold so they capture the test maximum rather than some interim value.

Exactly. 2 minutes for the whole band and a fraction of a second on each frequency.
