It may also mean it's cheaper because they don't have to pay extra to the programme content providers for European distribution rights.
Yes, you could well be right. Basically it could mean anything. ;)

That's right. It's a quote out of context. The next sentence is, "We broadcast our services for UK audiences “in the clear” or unencrypted (which is what makes Freesat possible) and so for rights reasons we are limited in terms of the services that we are able to broadcast on a European beam".

I took that to mean they can't broadcast their normal channels on the European beams. So now having only one single red button feed it was a waste of a transponder (which couldn't be used for regular channels) which previously was full with a number of sports and multi screen feeds.

Today evening i made a RF-Scan from Astra 1N on 28.2°E to compare the signals later with 2F
What aerial did you use for that scan?

1) We have to pay more to the rights holders if we transmit on PE transponders, or 2) we don't have rights to broadcast that material across Europe so our PE transponder is almost empty. You can take it either way but the bottom line is the same, i.e. PE transponders are a waste of money for the BBC due to problems with rights, not because SES charges more for them.

Is there any way in that software to output the scan as dBuV, instead of dBm?

they still have 2D there, its on the OFFICAL fleet list, and is being used as OFFIICAL backup for 1N and will be used so when 2F is there ....so dont matter if problems with 2F as there is still a backup satellite
so very quick swap
2D is not north/south station keeping anymore. It is currently in an inclined orbit.

Yes, with a blind scan. Horizontals shown. Best to do H and V separately, or it tends to fill the chart, overlaying the readings.

Yup - 0.6 degrees inclined - 2D's got about another 6-9 months before shes too inclined for dth broadcast

Well 2D is nominally operational, but that doesnt mean the old girl is switched on ;)

Might be used for news feeds but unless someone has got the time to run regular blind scans to see in anything turns up in the low band then shes turned off.
