These conspiracy theories are starting to get pretty tiresome. The simple fact is load balancing. 2F is going to handle band C and 2E is going to handle band D. When BBC open BBC Two HD England/Wales/Scotland/NI that will no doubt mean the opening of a new transponder on 2F (as that is where the free space is right now). That will then mean there is a full set of channels on 2F (BBC1, BBC2, ITV1, C4, & C5). From that point on it is not very relevant what footprints any future launches bring as a full set of channels will already available on the satellites that are already active.

TBH, all this nonsense being posted by cyber-muppets is doing is scaring defenseless pensioners into buying dishes far bigger than they need and lining the pockets of crooked installers who are also perpetuating this.

I smell a rat!
Where is the evidence that SES want Astra 1N at 19.2E in such a hurry? Astra 1N can move after 2E is up and transmitting next summer.

The Beeb has stated that BBC HD will become BBC2 HD so that will be the current transponder. They are looking to reduce the number of transponders not increase them.

That is one channel, not enough for the countries. Let's wait and see. Here they have already started selling receivers with BISS keys preloaded and 27W channels in the channel list (just in case).

I read in another internet page:

Camel Updated Dec 5
Tarragona, Spain, 1.0m dish, no reception from Astra 2F, ITV or Channel 5 since 04/12/2012. All other Sky channels ok.

-maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&msa=19&msid=201944365313257562972.0004cf2d0c06db1300234

Analoguesat said in post #246:
"The nulls and peaks will be caused by minute imperfections in the dish arrays during manufacture. It might be a case of a fraction of a mm out somewhere."

Just guessing:
If the new 2E has the imperfections the other way around or no imperfections, Barcelona and surroundings might be fine with that SAT. South of Valencia might be more difficult.

They've also stated that there will be no BBC2 regions - just a single BBC2. So that means just a single BBC2 HD.

Can i ask how you are drawing this conclusion ? I thought so far it was only reasonable to assume that BBC one HD ( regional ) would be on 2F. Id hope your right in saying that , just that pouring over the tid bits id not seen anything to confirm this.

BBC One HD England & Northern Ireland are on 10847V (1N) and BBC One HD Scotland & Wales are on 11023H (2F). All the low band channels currently on 1N are going to move to 2E, so copies of BBC 1 on both satellites. As far as regional goes who cares? We live in Spain so none of it is local to us anyway and normally the only regional stuff is a couple of minutes at the end of the news. And anyway BBC One HD is not regional at the moment, but that just means a blackout for a few minutes here and there, i.e. less rather than more for being non-regional.

Why do you suppose ITV , C4 , C5 will be on 2F ? Even then there are many pbs channels missing ( which would be better than nothing )

I am collecting reports in Spanish and portuguese in a Spanish forum, there is a guy in Porto , Portugal who has all stations on a 1.2m dish. Hopefully I get more reports in Spanish not being reached by an english forum but that one in particular is very interesting given the larger dishes that have been tried not too far South.

In the sense that there is not a second report ( to me or that forum ) from the same city , no its not corroborated but 300 km directly east there is a report of 1.2m being ok also. I have asked him for more info , lnb SNR etc. Searching google with " astra 2F Porto " i come across references to positive reports further south of Porto , half way to coimbra on 1,25m dish .

IF corroboration is required. He feels that his dish fixed may get a lock ( it was raining heavily ) or a slightly larger dish would do the trick.

the two chaps (different to the previous chap) on talkradioeurope today seemed to be a bit more with it...and explaining things a bit better.
"basically - dont panic yet - wait and see what happens with BBC channels".
why this is happening - "the satellite are old and need replacing".
"until 2E is up launched, and transmitting uk channels no-one knows what its reception will be like!"

much better advice and way better information, well informed and more professional

if you go to thier website, and ondemand, its on the 1400-1500 segment for download - will see if i can pop a version up here later.
