Astra 2E: General Discussion (Post-Testing)

Might be wrong but cannot recall 2F testing the lower frequencies ca. 10714 - 10906 as these are on 1N UK spotbeam.

What we need is to open a betting book on the changes being discussed, to while away the days waiting for something - anything - to happen

No need the longer the transit takes the better I like it:-rofl2

Of course just my own thoughts:D

No it didn't test those frequencies, the original spec for 2F did not include them, only 2E & 2G cover those frequencies.

So I can't see them moving 1N to 2F even as a temporary measure.

This milestone change of 80 channels.........

I think they might be moving the 1N TPs over to 2F so that as soon as 2E is on station she can be sent off to her original home at 19.2E

It would make sense to shift the 1N TPs over and prepare her for transit if they knew for sure that 2E was on the way to (or even on station @) 28E

it look litel high 1n tonight
I got 4. db c/n pe beam

Time for some rumours ...
Either they are testing Ka band this week or they found a problem and are working out if its a show stopper.

As previously stated by (I think) Huevos, there are so few Ka resources that Testing would not be time-consuming.

And the Ku Testing seems non-contentious , as observed by our suitably equipped contributors.

That leaves Propulsion as being an area about which we have no reliable info.

Well if it is on it's way then the TLE's should show that, so no reason to believe it's anything but stationary at 43.5E, hopefully the next TLE will prove me wrong but I won't hold my breath waiting on that.

I presume we're potentially done too now on new TLE's until Monday?

it looking next will be stay on 43.5e
I belive after 1 December will be update

That's another week ...................... !!??

I think the next TLE will be from Sunday night (there was one last Sunday), from comparing the current TLE with the one I saved from Tuesday night there are some small variations in the info which is what you would expect for a geostationary satellite. So it still suggests it's not moving, question is why...

TLE has been updated. Still on 43.5...

I'm really beginning to doubt TLE. I can't imagine that the Astra 2E will stay there for one week just being mute.

I tend to agree. Just because we don't have the information we think we want doesn't mean that it isn't on its way.

However, it appears that Celestrak is updating the two-line element sets for the 2E. Why should one question the reliability of that data for the 2E. Or has Celestrak stopped providing updates for the 2E?

If the Celestrak data is normally reliable, for this and other satellites, and given that the most recent data is telling us that the 2E was not moving at the time then, surely, the simplest interpretation is that the 2E really was not moving at the time the data was collected. It is safer to believe the data from a reliable source rather than to suggest that Celestrak is providing wrong data just on the basis of one satellite.

If the 2E had really started to move and then Celestrak reported that it had stopped moving then maybe it would be reasonable to question Celestrak. The 2E, however, was stationary for at least five weeks. Celetrak tells us it is still stationary. The "best buy" interpretation is that the 2E is still stationary or that it has only just started to move.

Now it seems on 43.0

Curious, which site did you find that on or how did you determine it's at 43E rather than 43.5E?

n2yo & satellite-calculation both still show 2E at 43.5E , the current TLE is being used by both those sites, so impossible to confirm a move is in place until the TLE is updated.

We simply do not know. That is what SES want. They would hide those tests if they could.

it can be ses testing ka band
or tle not update two week
need to remember 29 November it two month satellite on air without operation
