so nothing changed, not even PIDs. I just did a scan... nothing noticable. Only one inactive transponder on 2F is NIT listed: 11.097V - 23000 8PSK.

Yeah that inactive transponder has been in the NIT for a few weeks now.

Someone on the german forum had more luck with getting an answer from SES. They've written that 2E will start operations mid of december.

Interesting, that ties in with my theory a few posts up of about 80 days after launch.

Let's see!! I contacted SES yesterday and they answered that they are not willing to part with taht kind of information.

Then 2E will need to be on the move very shortly then, mind you SES have not been too accurate in the past with their information.

By Operational they would mean @28.2E and handed over, not necessarily transmitting live, the 2F operational was a few weeks before live transmissions were seen, although a few tests transponders were light up.

Yes, I meant to point that out in my original post too. It's not the day they start transmitting, but the day the satellite is ready to take customers should they wish to use it.

I've seen an EMail from SES in response to an individual's query saying 2E is already Operational.

That's plainly nonsense and their PR dept. has a sorry track record in giving out bland journospeak with no real meaning.

I suggest we rely upon our own observations as being more significant than any other resource.

Maybe Astrium have handed it over at 43.5E as operational, and left it to SES to park it at 28.2E when it suits.

Nothing on their new page to support that though, or on twitter.

I'm not aware of any instance where acceptance has occurred other than at the final position.

There is a short testing phase at the final position including veryifying illumination and tweaking attitude, power etc. We saw that very clearly with 2F.

Very true

philosophicaly speaking believe it when you see ( or dont ) it

Those who know something at SES won't say anything. It's their policy. Those who say something do not know anything. Quite simple.

Lets see what happens now 1H has passed by 43E, if 2E is raised higher in orbit, as per 2F and moves 1.6W/day then it will be well above 1H (which it's speculated is going to 31.5E anyway). I'd presume Astrium would be in charge of moving the satellite to it's final position and not SES before handover so purely in Astrium's hands?

You presume correctly, Sir.

You did better than me I got this reply when I asked when would SES Astra 2E be starting @ 28.2 east ?

Thank you for contacting SES and for your enquiry.

Kind regards,

The SES Team

That was 2 days ago & nothing since.

Well at least they didn't say anything misleading!!

Very important news! The one you all have been wating for!
