Time will tell if we will get reasonable satellite reception from 2f + 2e. So far so good - so fingers crossed. One thing for sure, we will soon know.

Back at the end of last year BTSport moved from Eutelsat to Astra 2F UK spotbeam, A few days later it reappeared on the PE beam - you may wonder why. I'm sure there is nothing oficial published anywhere but as it is a pay cannel I expect that the switchboards were clogged with 'UK' residents wanting to cancel their subscription as they were no longer able to receive the cannel - money talks!

None of the Freesat channels are subscription so they will have no pressure from subscribers or be running the risk of losing revenue by losing viewers outside the UK.

My guess (and it's only that) is that SKY will not run the risk of losing paying subscribers irrespective of where they are based so if they move to 2E or 2F they will move to PE beams. If that is the case then you should not worry about losing your tv.

You are correct, many UK TV viewers only have the freesat channels however those that have packages tend to have the sports packages. Lets assume the do.
So if there are a possibly conservative 300,000 SKY viewers dotted around Europe what's it worth?

300,000 x subs @ £43.50/month = £13.5 million a month = £156.6 million per year.

Not sure about you but if I was running a business that I wouldn't be too keen on wiping £156.6 million off the bottom line - the shareholders might not be too happy or maybe BSB is so huge they wouldn't really notice. At the end of the day, as I said earlier, money talks.
 
No matter - they'd just adjust the "proper" Subs to recover the lost revenue!

BTW, they are being very aggressive on Retentions at the moment, from what I read.

The satellites can re-orient themselves for non-sterable beams can't they?

In that case the European beam makes more sense if you think of it being centered on Switzerland instead of Germany rather than the the UK? e.g. the coast of Spain is all sensible size dishes and the Balkans/Romania/Greece and is covered by the "Polish" spot. i.e. the European beam is optimised for operation at 19.2 / 23.5'E, where the UK beam would be redundant / focused on Benelux.
 
As it nearly at 28.2....is there a frequency I could tune (in non freesat mode) my Humax freesat box to ....would I get a test signal or something....?.....

No, only the beacon is active and you need special equipment to see it as it's not a normal satellite channel as such.

Yes. Most but not 11068v and 11097v for some reason. I get 10964h, 10994h, 11023h, 11053h and 11126v.
 
28.82 degree's now, doesn't look like it is slowing down just yet. Maybe later tonight or early tomorrow morning it will start to manoeuvre into position. :-woohoo

Search for Sky on telegraph.co.uk and you'll find a report about their heavy handed tactics. They are now being scrutinised by the regulator for their tactics.
This is nothing new from Sky. I moved to Spain from the UK 9 years ago and cancelled my subscription in writing. Sky didn't cancel it and I was being chased by debt collectors for ages - I kept referring them back to the letter I sent Sky. I guess that in the end it wasn't worth flying someone over to come and try to find me (difficult) and knock on my door (even more difficult as the whole property is fenced).

If you're using a predictive tracker, now is the time to stop believing: On virtually every occasion you get anomalies whereby the tracker shows the bird apparently overshooting and carrying on going even when there is other evidence eg Beacon, Live Transponder to prove it is actually on station.
 
Predictive trackers always end up doing a three point turn sooner or later to get the bird at right location.

Like when tracking large space debris on earth re-entry trajectory they continue ( predictive ) tracking even when crashed.
 
Must have started manoeuvres now. No beacons visible at or near GSO presently.
 
tracker or not, at this time of day tommorrow, 2E will be on station... and some guys at a castle in Luxembourg are probably having a glas of Champagne. Or two.
 
They are all predictive, because the TLEs are only updated every day or two.


@Llew: I still can hear 11.707 - but it is much weaker than before, it is only a few pulses next to 2F.

Surprised SKy use debt collectors as the amounts owed can't be that much - i.e. if someone doesn't pay they just cut them off and only lose a couple months of revenue. how much did you owe them?

You must be the only person who ever moved to Spain with a ready made Sky subscription and cancelled it! Most expats are paying £100s to dodgy companies to get overpriced access to Sky.
