HI GUYS. Well the Gibby 1m arrived today. But I think I'm going to get someone to install this beast as I can't see myself getting up any sort of ladder to try to install this. I didn't realize the size of the bloody thing.....it's huge! No, I'm sorry lads, but I'm going to have to call in the big guns on this one. I've bitten off more than I can chew. There is no way in hell I can install this myself. I could cry.

Just catch your breath and reconsider: I'm sure a resourceful chap like you will manage just fine.

Don't forget the heavy lift only needs doing once, so all you need is a buddy for a few minutes.

The tweaking shouldn't be much trickier than with the TD88.

It really is no different to TD88... yes, it's slightly larger but not much more so.

Get summat like an exhaust clamp to put round the pole - then the dish wont slip down the pole whilst you are trying to tighten its bolts up.

I managed to install a 1.1m triax on a ground mounted pole alone. Not easy & I wouldnt have wanted to fight with it 20 feet up a ladder!

Wait for a quiet day when you arent going to be interrupted by family demands - and make sure its not windy!

I felt much the same when my TD110 arrived, but it wasn't really a problem.

Just count to ten ............

....... Then have a breakdown!

Tivu. I'm sat here typing this and breaking my heart...I'm in tears. I have just called an installer who does motorised and awaiting his return call. I feel so disappointed in myself. There is nothing else I can do.

Get a grip, man. There is no shame in realising that something is beyond your capabilities, for whatever reason :) . Better wounded pride now than dropping the dish or - even worse - *yourself* onto the deck from a height of 20ft or so.

Tony, I think I said before..... mount the bracket without the dish face, then take that up (it will be loads lighter than the whole dish) and bolt it to the bracket...I've done that with my 1M Gibi and the 1.2M motorised.....and I really haven't got a head for heights

It takes a wise man to know when something is beyond his capabilities. I have reached that stage. I could have managed an 80cm, but not this one. I agree with you, hairybadger! Damaging a dish and more to the point ones-self is not worth that risk. Time to hold up my hands and say "Leave it to someone else". But I will be continuing to install my own dishes for Sky/Freesat or any other satellite so not a complete failure. Remember that if it were not for you guys on here, I would not have got into motorised satellite and I owe a big thanks to all for that. I was always a fixed dish guy...until I came on here. When I do get this beast installed, I will have more satellites including those I could not get before with a TD78. :).

I hate having health problems and the Gibby 1m has just highlighted that. I have osteoarthritis in my left ankle which gives way sometimes and that's why I'm leaving the job to an installer.

Fair enough, Tony: That new dish will give you much pleasure, whoever fits it.

Dead right, Tivu! I'm just a bit miffed as I know I can't do this one myself. But I look forward to seeing what this baby can pick up!!!!

As it says in bright freindly letters on the encyclopedia galactica ...DONT PANIC ..
I managed to get a a preassembled steel TD110 with diseqc motor attached up a long double section ladder and on to the top of a wall mounted pole near the apex of my Edwardian terraced house by going up backwards on a non windy day one rung at a time and leaning back against the ladder with the dish/motor assembly hooked over one shoulder in my early 50s ...
If I can do it anyone can ..
Just make sure to use a ladder wall stand off and plan ahead ...
Tie your ladder off securely and take your time..
It is doable ..and an ally dish is much lighter..
Just don't attempt such a juggling act on a wet and windy day.

I suppose once it's up there, you'll be able to tinker with it anyway?

You are right AS! You never know I may surprise you all yet! But for the moment I'll see about getting someone to fit for me. Why have a dog and bark yourself, eh? ;)
