Getting Started On C Band

Thanks for interesting reply martin-f. My immediate goal is C band reception from 5W, which I think I read is not too difficult. Lying in wait I have a Televés 1m20 offset dish as well as a Televés 1m20 prime focus, which has never worked very well with Ku band LNBFs, perhaps not surprisingly.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who will be following your progress keenly!
 
And that's exactly what this hobby is all about ... Else you might as well just watch Sky...
 
I have been thinking about having a go at C Band for some time.I thought that maybe there was a C120 lnb that would fit my Gibertini feedhorn but no.So I am on the same footing as you martin.I have ordered the same titanium lnb as you.Fun times ahead.:)
I know that my dish is not big enough but a small thing like that is not going to stop me.:)Sooner or later a 120 cm one will be going up onto the shed.
 
We do well from our location you never know what could turn up Ray:), I will be speaking to the chap with the dishes at some point today if he returns my phone call, I will ask him out off interest what he has atm and let you know,

From memory one dish was CH 1.2 and the other was an 1.2 aluminium dish unsure of the make, they could have gone by now but I will ask.
 
As I always say consider a mesh 3m or bigger :D from Poland or the Baltic states or some other EU state where they are cheaper.

Or maybe direct from China where they are manufactured. You would have to pay import tax but that should be low as the purchase price will be low.
 
Maybe even adapt one of those 2.4m dishes made from toilet paper that come up on flea bay from time to time. No need for tight tolerances with C band, stringing to 10mm should be o.k.

I think those dishes were intended for C band use anyway.
 
To be honest my dream dish is sat in the shed waiting to be installed, I have had some great fun with my 1mtr orbitals and now still having fun with my 1.2 just on ku,

I am sure I will never run out of things to chase/find etc with the 1.8 with c band ku and maybe ka, also it will be able to track inclined satellites, I will be as happy as a pig in muck. I cant see me ever wanting needing anything bigger:).

I think that I may get away with a 1.2 if I sneak one up when wifey is not looking.:)

Yeah... that's what I thought prior to the 2.4 meter Prodelin showing up in classifieds here two days ago.

I could not go any bigger ST1, I live in the middle of a council estate and was lucky to get planning for the 1.8, and that's because a friend works in the office :D.

I have good results using the titanium - pll with conical feed - on a 1.8 channel master offset
but no better than the ESX 241 or the BSC421 (same conical feed) -- to be honest, there is nothing to choose between them on my setup.

Thank you nelson, I did have a read around other forums and have read good reports, from my reading it takes a little tweaking to get it right.

I am fairly certain they are.
And they seem to work well with that. (Ignoring the rust-issue)
Then some clever dick thought "why not use them for Ku" - and here comes trouble.
So all-in-all, they probably do what it originally said on the tin, at a rock-bottom price.


...but to be honest, they are really crap through-and-through. You get what you pay for.

It could be that the gain is not too high and so it doesn't overload your system.
