We may need to update this thread title as Astra 2G seems to be hanging around at 21E but according to the Airbus website it seems to be in geostationary orbit now. Not sure if testing will happen here as it's quite close to other satellites, or if just the military x-band will be activated here.

The Astra 2G telecommunications satellite was launched in Kazakhstan, on 27 December 2014 and has since been successfully deployed in geo-stationary orbit.

Designed and manufactured by Airbus Defence and Space for satellite operator SES, Astra 2G is based on the highly reliable Eurostar E3000 platform. A series of manoeuvres enabled the satellite to reach geo-stationary orbit on 2 January, the solar arrays and reflector antennas have been deployed and the satellite has acquired final Earth pointing. The satellite will now be fully tested before entering service.

Could be using the slot vacated by the US military X-Band satellite DSP-F18?
Or at least that was around where it was located according to http://www.uhf-satcom.com/xband/beacons.html

X-Band Beacon DSP-F18 20.7 East 7293.700 FHSS 6.42MHz wide (13 04.13)

How about "Astra 2G: Pre-Testing Phase"

Unambiguous and covers our uncertainty?

Sounds reasonable Gordon. Seems to have moved a little further East today according to my pulse count, maybe half a degree or so.

Well Timo has it within his gift to do the deed ;)

It's common practice to use a frying pan.......unless it's some strange Finnish custom.....

Never used a frying pan, we use metal sticks with handles, a bit like when camping.

...while in a sauna. Nothing wrong with that...
Ha, actually it's normally done right after sauna in a special room next to it, but today we just skipped the sauna bit. Anyway, back to Astra 2G... ;)

Don't remember anymore who was taking photos of 2E last year....
That was a fantastic achievement!
Any one up for that now with 2G?

i was hoping to shoot some pictures, but all i see since weeks are clouds

Yeah right. Since a few years, one can safely ignore Lyngsat's satellite lineup when it comes to actuality, correctness, and completeness.

Today with the release of ific2786, includes license renewal LUX-G6-6 for X-band and Ka-band..
