Here are some of my photos of the northern lights from last night taken in Northern Finland during the strongest geomagnetic storm of the current solar cycle. It was one of the best displays I've seen and last pretty much the whole night with varying intensities.

Thanks guys, yep, it was pretty damn cool and I was very lucky to be up north for this event. Even in Helsinki there have been some great photos taken but it's nice to get away from the city lights.

It's quite something else to see the aurora's corona burst out right above. It's also tricky to set the camera pointing directly up into the sky. If only I had a fish eye lens and a proper camera I could have captured even more.

I am sooooo jealous of you being able to see those. Simply stunning. If you'd put one picture per post I'd have "liked" them all!

Misty clouds and light pollution made sure we saw nothing here.

Now I know why you are one of the GODS! Brilliant pics, could only see a dim light to the north from here! ( And thought that was off the back of a lorry going north )

I´ll chip in for the proper camera and the lens is you can reproduce the pics!

Anyone else contribute 1€ so Timo can get a better camera!

Heh, problem is this might have been "the big one" for this solar cycle and it could be another 11 years or so before the next one...

Have just seen the latest news on ch 5, apparently it was visible from Dorset and north Hampshire, but not from Formentera del Segura ( just my luck )

Quote from the BBC regarding this solar activity
" Such solar activity can sometimes cause disruption to satellite communications, but there are no such reports of this occurring so far "
So I guess Ming was not involved this time!

Good call, just switched from Pick+1, Andrommeda, live is better than fiction, normally! Not much about the Northern Lights though, back to Pick
