Astra 2G at 28.2E: General Discussion

I don´t know how reliable this information is:
http://www.satellite-calculations.com/Satellite/satellitelist.php#XTAR-EUR

I will wait a couple of weeks before any adjustment on my dish. Don´t you think 2G will be moved further east?

Right now I have 2E,F,G 24/7 but I would feel more safe with a bit more rain margin on 2F and slightly more on 2G.
From what many of us have noticed 2g does seem to be misplaced. It should move a little further East, but as long as it is not affecting the desired target location, it is doubtful they will bother.
I have no special test equipment or software that can tell me where it is, but 27.9? would be my best guess at the moment.
I for one hope it does move!

With 2g supposedly almost 0.5 degree west from 2e/2f midpoint(where my dish is hopefully pointed) it could explain loss of 11023 and 11053 for me. Off on holiday soon so will try and tweek it a bit when I get back. All 2g transponders except these and 10993 pretty good. Could lnb skew be more critical on these weaker transponder and for some reason signal quality level on some freesat hd transponders always seems to bounce around between 10-40 (but worked fine until changes)almost everything is between 70-76 inc C4hd and itv london hd, maybe my cheap F3?

It cannot be at 27.9e, my 5m dish is pointed somewhere near 28.2e and I get at least same level (or higher) as from 2F UK 12422 TP. I would not get anything from this if really on 27.9e.

LyngSat also has 12422H listed as being on Europe beam.

It's on the 2F UK spotbeam . I know, because i cannot receive it at all. For that frequency i'm in the middle of the NULL.

Hi

LyngSat also has 12422H listed as being on Europe beam.
I hardly think so
. For me, it is the weakest transponder at 28E.
I have 7,5 dB on that transponder, compared to roughly 12 dB on 2E UK beam.
Regards,
Bengt
Think so, not in the European beam is at similar levels, 5'50dB as the day 06/04/2015.
Tp's European of Astra2G are around 18dB for Madrid (Spain).
According tp's relationship/Satellite of Pietclock.
-----------------

Expect a few days to better adjust the antenna, which are not always satellites and touch you back to the old position adjust the antenna securely.
-----------------
Esperaria unos dias para ajustar mejor la antena, no estan donde siempre los satelites y te tocara volver a ajustar a la vieja posicion la antena seguramente.

And the whole further west/Y todo el conjunto mas al oeste (-0.05º).
By the Astra2F the worst time is 18:00 few days later with the new integrated satellite, back to 18:00 maximum signal to reach the Astra2E, the sequence is repeated and now I'm like the Astra2G.
----------

The antenna is small 100cm, for channels I see is enough, is very sensitive to movement of the satellite.

PS: If you want to spend the morning / afternoon with some fresh, perfect drink.
PD: Si quieres pasar la mañana/tarde tomando alguna bebida fresca, perfecto.;)

Loss of 11023 and 11053 could be down to tha data signal on 11008. Still think 2g is out of position ( 27.9 is only 0.3 off 28.2 , so feasable )

12422 difficult here as well, same behaviour as 11307 \ 11343 2F UK.

Are we certain that 11464H is on 2G ? The reason I ask is that while performing nudge tests to see where 11224H peaked I also took measurements for 11464H. Not only is 11464 stronger by 1.3dB to start with it peaked at 28.2E while the signal for 11224H peaked at 28.0E.

This begs 2 questions:-

1. If they are both 2G Euro beam then why the power difference ?
2. Why do they peak at slightly different locations ?

The tests were carried out on my 1M motorised dish but the power difference is also noticable on my fixed 54cm dish. Obviously I can't confirm peak locations on the fixed dish but there is definitely a power difference between 2G TPs 89/90/92 and 105-108. :confused

No

We can only trust the info we get from other locations. 11464 should be lower due to FEC , obviously not what you are finding. I will scan both frequencies for a few days and see if I can see something unusual

Going by what people are seeing in Finland I would say they are on 2G.

FEC won't make a difference to the signal level. It only makes a difference to the point at which you get breakup of a signal.

The 11224H transponder is 36MHz wide, whereas the other is 26MHz wide. I would think this is more likely to be a reason for the slight variation in signal levels.

Hi Rachet, do me a favour, run the same test again tomorrow, think the result may be different

Is 1.3dB slight? Methinks more than slight, I need to re-think!

I call that slight. In Finland signal from 2G Europe have meant levels have jumped up a lot more than that compared with 28A!

OK, early Christmas for Finland, need to re-think to help Ratchet!

Hi Milamber, I'm not exactly on the fringes so no danger of losing any services. The 1.3dB of a difference was 15.5 v 16.8 ;)

I was actually intrigued by the observations by some that 2G wasn't exactly on station. That's when I noticed the difference in output levels and apparent peak positions.

Pattern pretty regular now. Blue line is UK QPSK spot transponders between 10964 and 11127, inc.

It´s the fact that you noticed the difference and the fact you posted it that gets me interested. I am always willing to learn, it helps me in the day job!

Updated TLE of 19 June: 19.2 East.
