11mm spanner for tweaking F Connectors.

+1 for the spanner, a small socket set, and a good phillips and good flat screwdriver. Maybe a set of allen keys......oh and if you are installing a Triax a third hand wouldn't go amiss......

11mm spanner for tweaking F Connectors.

F type connectors should never be done up with a spanner, although sometimes you do need one to undo them. 10.5mm is exact but 11mm will do. In my neck of the woods, 13mm spanner fits most mounting bolts, 17mm for support bolts, a decent signal meter, oh! and I almost forgot, a BRAIN!

For me, probably also the simplist tool. Prepares a cable for an f plug in seconds, also has a handy spanner on the end for those plugs that just wont come off.

I could do with one of them, got a coax cable stripper but it's a bit rubbish so tend to use an old knife

Mmmm, maybe. I have long suspected that it's actually an imperial size (7/16") as so much satellite equipment and telecom technology is based on US specifications. But, as every car mechanic knows, an 11mm spanner is a snug 7/16" so the difference is moot.

I have a little tubular spanner which slips over an F-plug which gives extra purchase for finger loosening or tightening. Wrench for satellite and cable boxes - 2 YEARS WARRANTY

10.5mm is exact ...

It would have to be an extremely worn F-plug for that to work. I've certainly never found a brand new one that size.

My minimum kit is good sized flat-blade and medium-sized philips screwdrivers, a no 13 ratchet-wrench, and a sat-meter.
Oh, and a box-cutter knife.

Beyond that (and preferably so), I'd add all the other sized of ratchet-wrenches, a compression toolkit for F-connectors, spirit-levels, deep pockets or a tool-belt to carry all this, and a can of WD-40 for the inevitable rusted bolt on existing kit (which I am used to dealing with)...

The best thing in my tool box is a half bottle of scotch, a bucket of ice and my favorite glass, this is for when the job is done.

And a small DVM to check out the coax after all connections are made, this saves a lot of climbing back on the roof.

A decent socket / spanner set, screwdriver set, SDS Drill & bits 8mm /10mm x 160, 8mm/10mm x 450mm, cable stripping tool, cutters, level, hammer, sealant gun, alignment meter and the necessary PPE equipment.

These are three of my essential tools, aside from the obvious like Drill, meter etc, first is the cable prep tool. As shown it has blades in the handle, I remove the three rear most blades, as the first time I used one, they sliced a finger open when reaching for the unit in my tool belt pouch.


Second is my dual socket ratchet wrench, I have a long 10mm socket on one side and a long 13mm socket on the other side.



This is my F connector tightener, suitably modified by grinding out internally to accept compression connectors and externally removed corners to enable use where the connectors are close together as with LNBs.

Deep pockets in -decent- trousers, having had a couple of tool pouches 'tip over' whilst climbing down ladders.

Strong comfortable boots with good tread pattern for the varying surfaces, roofs,ground (and ladder rungs).

A quality folding stepladder for internal work.

A ladder is a good thing to have

1. A good quality cable stripper.,
2. 11mm Torque spanner.
3. 50cm spirit level.
4. F connector crimper or compression tool ( i don't use those nasty screw on f's)
5. A good battery SDS drill
6. 13mm SDS socket driver
7. 10mm SDS masonary drill bit.
8. A big hammer (brummie screwdriver).
9. Flat blade screwdriver & Philips screwdriver.
10. 2x 13mm ratchet spanner & 2x 10mm ratchet spanner.
11. 13mm deep socket & 14mm deep socket and 18" cable ties
12. Roll of amalgamating tape
13. wall bolts of what ever type you decide to use.

I wold also recommend a good quality meter, Fall arrest equipment, a tool belt with deep pockets and fingerless gloves if its cold.

That list is pretty much all i use.

They -used to -come as standard with the range of external splitters and diplexers from Fracarro (or was it Televes ?).

This is my main tool, it's for bending sat signals so they enter the lnb at the correct angle.
Was 1st used on the satellite system on the Titanic.
