Mod. Note

As the original Thread was ten years old and longer than the Complete Works Of Shakespeare, herewith a shiny new Thread to replace it.

I have copied across a few of the latest Posts from the outgoing Thread, for continuity.

Enjoy.

I thought the same, and having come across a few in Spain would not go near it. They don't work well here at all
I remember a friend bought one from Maplins about 10 years back for about £100 and binned it within six months

at a push buy the one on the 2nd floor, looks more wind resilient!
I think it means that after first wind only 25% of those dishes survive. :-rofl2
And after second wind another 75% of those survivals are lost.

Absolute crap.
Agree with CH, Brian, and VS: Don't bother.

Mechanically it's not very nice - it's really flimsy. And absolutely don't mix with Scandinavian weather.
I had one in 2009. lasted a couple of months, then was thrashed in a fresh breeze one night...
Then I got real, and acquired a Channel Master. Entirely different class of product.

As for reception, I found the 180 to give roughly same peformance as a single-piece 120cm SMC dish.
This is probably mostly due to the difficulty in aligning the petals when assembling the dish.
It may also be due to crappy manufacturing giving badly shaped product, difficult to tell.

And with an f/D of 0.36, not very compatible with the majority of feeds available for (or in universal) Ku LNBs.

It will do C-band, though, as this is not quite as picky. If you were given one (for free), it might be worth experimeting with C-band reception.
In fact, I am fairly certain the dish was designed for C-band reception in e.g. Africa or the far-east.
But it's still not mechanically good.
