hey peeps, so i'm just curious how far have you travelled to get a satellite dish?

p.s wasnt sure where to post this feel free to move it if its in the wrong section...

This is as good a place as any :)

As a starter for ten, I'll say 300 metres .....

The reason being all my brand new dishes were delivered, one way or another, but I acquired an old Sky mesh (Yes, I am very happy to describe it thus ....... ) dish from the Analogue days from a neighbour's garage three doors up and more recently acquired a 1m solid dish from a farm oop t'lane, prior to them refurbishing some outbuildings.

Bought a 1m steel dish in Benicassim Spain and carried it on my motor caravan roof to mid Sweden 3000 km.

Personally, the farthest is 80 km (81,3 to be precise).

(I have had a colleague from a regional office bring me a dish from 316 km away, but this is akin to getting a delivery, so I am not counting this...)

I travelled only 5 miles for Carl my 1.5 ...
I travelled to Blackpool for Neil ..my 1.2 ...
but I remember travelling about 70 miles for Christina wayy back in the 80s ...
I dont drive ..so had to beg lifts and transport ..but I did at least play my part ..
Not huge distances ...but a long way for a guy who had no transport of his own ..
lol

I found a Sky zone 2 dish on the side of the road down in Shropshire a couple of weeks ago but sadly it had to stay there as we were picking some stuff up from my folks on the way back and there wasnt room for it.

I bought a 60cm back from Manchester a while back - a present from Vipersan. :) 200 miles

And the (60cm ex Sky analogue) dish that started it all off came up the M6 from Cannock in the back of my dads car (250 miles) And its still in use today - its our Sky digital dish :D

thats still some distance to be fair...

i like that youve named your dishes lol ;)

I fetched a 1.8 cm from London, a 1.2 cm and a 1224 from London and a 1.2 cm and pole mount from Skegness

I traveled 52 miles to Carlow to collect a 1.4 Offset. Strapped it on the roof rack and headed home to Dalystown, did 51.5 miles and the Bungees snapped and deposited it in the middle of the road less than a mile from home. Luckily there was no one around !!!!!!!!!!

Did you manage to recover it intact?

SFA for the 90cm dish from my neighbour's wall :) (unless you include 4m up a ladder to unbolt it! :)).

Reminds me of dear old Madge: "Have you travelled far?"

Not exactly collecting but I strapped a 1.8m glass fibre prime focus dish to the roof bars on my car about 16 - 17 years ago and took it from Wirral to the Vaucluse in France - some 950 miles (1500Km).

Same idea, though.

Impressive!

what happened to the dish?
Doesn't look like you're using it anymore??

It's up in the grenier (loft) awaiting a suitable time for installation. Back then I used it propped in a corner between the house and the dividing wall to bring in 1W analogue satellites for The Simpsons and other English language programmes.

When digital came along, especially the UK PSB channels, it became less important. It's certainly less important now than the 1001 jobs SWMBO has ahead of it for me to do.

Can she not put the dish up while you mow the lawn?
