We are in the process of installing an SSS 550mm stand off 76mm wall mount.

The image on their webpage showed a fully welded bracket which we had expected.

Speaking to them on the telephone after delivery they now only supply the bolt together version.

Though there are holes for ten rawl bolts and three clamps for the 76mm pole, there are just two fairly small bolts per fixing arm to join to the main bracket.

If you loosen these after the bracket is wall mounted it all goes out of plumb.

I had asked the total width required as there is a restricted space to fit the bracket, they gave us a smaller size than the bracket in fact requires.

He did not sound too sure so I repeated the question, but there was no response that suggested a further check was on order, just a conformation of the size given.

This has caused us no end of problems as I have had to bend the arms in, the pads then did nor sit flat to the wall and skewed when the rawl bolts were tightened up.

All this at the top of a double extension ladder : )

The paint chips off if you have to do a lot of levering and messing about, galvanising would have been much better.

I have to fit a second bracket below this one, there is no restriction on the width where this one will be mounted, but to make the stand off the same I will have to bend the arms in the same amount.

What should have been fairly straight forward has turned into a messy job.

I only wish I could have used the floor stand that came with the Precision Antenna.

Just thought I would have a moan, as I get fed up with the service and quality we are expected to except.

Would it not be a much better world if things were made not for profit but for the good of our fellow men : )

God Bless Regards Allen

I had a similar problem, with them, when I bought a polar mount, for my 1.2M dish.
After following the instructions, and images, they sent, the mount failed, and a part broke, they wanted the part back, and when returned they stated that this wasn't supposed to be used, even though it was in their instructions, and pictures.
They have some good products, if a bit expensive, but they don't seem to know what they're doing.

Agreed. I've seen and bought several products from SSS and all have been below my expectations. Way overpriced for what they are...

Thank you for your replies, I feel better now : )

I should have looked further a field, the T brackets at the link look good.

A welder and some angle iron for Christmas would be good.

There was a local galvanising business that did collect and return, we had our balcony railings made locally then galvanised, they still look good after 30 years in the sea air.

Paint is a waste of time unless it is done properly and even then it is going to be compromised with bolts etc.

Quoted as baked on yet there were sticky patches when it arrived : )

I like a wall bracket that I can jump up and down on.

Regards Allen

personally I wouldn't buy anything from them a friend bought a pole adaptor first strong wind his dish went through his greenhouse it broke clean at the weld

Been told this co. fabricates solid bracketry.

Very worrying CJ, but plans are afoot for a beefing up operation with Unistrut...
I knew I should have just fabricated my own... would cost more with the welder but at least I would know it would be solid.

I was thinking of just guy-wiring the thing - what was your plan? Any diagrams etc...?

I have 2 of the 450mm stand off brackets, although they are solid the "oven baked finish" soon flaked off, there is hardly any left at all after 4 years. Not what I would expect for the price that you pay for them. They are also a faff to set up because the legs are quite springy so you have to fix the bottom leg then 1 side leg then push/pull the other side to get them fixed where you want, all whilst up a ladder or tower (much easier). I ended up shimming the face of the bracket to get my pole vertical. I also found that the pre drilled holes in the foot plates that fix to the wall are not spaced properly for bricks, however you placed the footplate 2 of the fixings where either on the edge of a brick or on mortar joints! My brackets for my motorised CM dish I had made locally in stainless steel and improved footplates for just a bit more than the SSS ones cost me, far better. :D

Some sort of outrigger arrangement I think, only really had a quick look this morn. I'll see what bits I have and take it from there. That weld has always been at the back of my mind, but it survived last winter OK, my dish is quite sheltered from the prevailing wind. I would certainly do something at your end CJ as yours location looks quite exposed.

Yes, another issue I've found is that there is no drain hole at the bottom of that weld so all rainwater is nicely being collected inside ready for rust to take hold. This is what I had from Dave @ SSS on the matter...

Hi Alex

The metal is that thick I think it would take many years to be a problem

However, an Aerosol of Hammerite waxoil sprayed in should sort it out

this is what you put inside the chassis of a car

Available from Halfords

thanks

Dave

For the price we've paid, we should NOT be worrying about these things - it should have been made out of stainless steel or properly galvanised.

The polar mount I have from him is galvanised and capped, so should not get any water down there..hopefully!

Some questions if you would be so kind : )

Was your SSS mount fully welded or the bolt together type ?

Did you have their 76mm galvanised pole and if so has it stood up the weather I wonder.

The galvanising on the pole they supplied to me does not look as good as the galvanising on other brackets and poles I have, but that could just be cosmetic.

I am wondering if I should scrap it all and start again, or just keep the pole which is three meters and sell the brackets of, with of course an explanation of the way I feel about them.

Kind Regards Allen
